Now, there was a barber shop on the N side of California in that little strip next to White castles. I dont remember if Frank was there, then moved across the street to RR.

There was also Seidner's Kosher Butcher shop and a bakery in that strip (On California)

We would stop at the bakery and get hot doughnuts on the way to school.

There was a dentist office across California on S side of street.

I don't remember what was on the SW corner of Reading and California.

I do remember when Dad was "teaching" me to drive we were turning left on RR from California. I still had trouble with the clutch on a stick shift and stalled in the middle of RR. Dad started yelling so I just got out and walked home, leaving him in the passenger seat.

Strange, couldn't edit last post.

The dentist was Dr Cress and I think Dr Mamm

Frank's as I remember it, was across the street from the White Castle. John, the barber, cut a lot of my friends' hair also, and always had the latest gossip. Made for a great haircut. I think John was German, as I remember a pretty thick accent.

Not sure of my directions but if you are thinking about the business that was across California Ave from White Castle, I am pretty sure it was a Sohio gas station.
I remember they used to have a game where they would post the winning license plate numbers in some game; I used to go up there frequently to check for my parent's plates.

Is there anyone out there that attended Columbian School? The school was the hub of my existence during the 40s. The school was situated between Union and Melish on Harvey Avenue. It now is a parking lot for the Hospital complex.

Default Roselawn School

Anyone who attended Roselawn during the '60's has to remember pole climbing in Rex Hamersley's gym class + the track meets @ Woodward!
