Our son who lives in Hamilton says Nicole's Pizza and Subs in New Miami is really good. You just have to watch closely when you are trying to get there because apparently they are tucked in behind another building as you are heading up 127. I guess their crust and sauce is all from scratch.

Pizza New Miami, OH ( Ohio ) - Nicole's Pizza & Subs (http://nicolespizzaandsubs.com/ - broken link)

Couple opens new pizza place

I'm very picky when comes to pizza. I grew up in NY for 17 years and very bias when it comes to NY style pizza. I've only lived in Cincy for a few months now and can say Balboa's grill and pizzeria is the best NY style pizza in Cincinnati. My wife and I have tried other places but Balboa's is our favorite so far!

I haven't had Richards since I moved away from Fairfield - I like their pizza but only second to their hoagies.

I like Mios (the sesame crust is great). We ate Dewey's so much that I got burned out on it. I have been eating Balboas in O'Bryanville a lot lately.

I hear a lot of good things about Cassano's in Fairfield too. But there again, it has been a long time since...

It seems like the style has a lot to do with preferences. I really like Chicago deep dish - in Chicago, but would not like a steady diet of it. It has to be eaten fresh or it is terrible. I have not been educated as to exactly what NY style is, but anticipate many NYers will disagree on what exactly it is.

We had an independent in our area who unforunately has closed. I liked them because when I phoned and ordered my large double anchovy pizza with extra cheese, they never said NO but would drive up the street to Kroger to buy a couple of cans of anchovies so they could satisfy my order. I am sorry, but I crave anchovy pizza and they fit the bill. It especially goes down well with a couple of cans of beer to offset the salt. Unfortunately I now have no alternative other than make my own.

Many years ago I first experienced seafood pizza on the West Coast. The sauce was even white, though I am not sure what the base was. Frankly, the better ones were quite good.

I have had many styles of pizza I have enjoyed, and some which were terrible. It is probably good there is no official as I understand it of what a pizza pie is.

I love the Works in Loveland but Noce's in Montgomery is great as well. New York style pizza with a thicker crust and lots of garlic on the Mattie deluxe. If you want a road trip, try Marian's in Dayton. Totally home made, they cut it into little squares, thin crust and lots of toppings. We sometimes drive from Montgomery up there just for a taste!

This is Dayton style pizza - very thin crust, cut into small squares - often called "tavern cut" - and the crust usually has some (delicious) charring. Marion's and Cassano's are rival chains in the Dayton area that most people associate with the style.

If you go to Marion's, ask for "the old oven", which means that the crust has better crispness, flavor and color when it comes out. The wait staff will know exactly what you are talking about. The old oven is high temperature gas and the pizza bakes while stationary, and the "new" oven is a conveyor belt.

The best rendition of Dayton style (in my opinion) is Ron's Pizza, with one location in the downtown square in Miamisburg. They make a better pizza than either Marion's or Cassano's, and their tavern is more comfortable to eat in.

Cassano's is a quality pizza but the main objection I have to Cassano's today is that their crust seems to be mass produced in a factory like Donato's. Marion's and Ron's both still have a handmade character (even if they are really not.) And Cassano's locations are really not well designed for eat-in.
