These revelations, if accurate, make me more inclined to support the Girl Scouts, not less so. In fact, if better publicized, there are undoubtedly a lot of other people who'd buy a couple extra boxes of cookies. That said, I didn't find any primary references to back up these allegations, just a few mentions from highly politicized secondary sources.

But that's not really the point. I'll repeat what I often tell people who're unhappy with their various volunteering situations. There's so much need that there's absolutely no reason for anyone to do something they don't like. In this instance and feeling as you do, I'd probably take the money and contribute it to a local church organization for help in teaching young people values that match up with your own. Live and let live, and leave the scouts alone.

Could you please reveal your source for this information?

There's probably no point in your asking. As I wrote earlier, "I didn't find any primary references to back up these allegations, just a few mentions from highly politicized secondary sources." When you ask for sources in a situation like this, you'll probably get the secondary sources and they'll be cited as factual. You then can either accept that answer or an endless argument will ensue. Not speaking about Wilson specifically, just my experience with what almost always happens in a discussion like this.

I was once a young, poor, married and grateful client of Planned Parenthood and I remain supportive of the work they do in women's health, STD prevention and treatment, and contraception. I wish they'd get completely out of the abortion business, even though I do not consider them "babykillers" for it. But that would make it harder to attack them--on the grounds that they assist women get LEGAL abortions--by people whose real agenda is to impose their own morality systems on other people's private behavior.

But you see, if you actually believe in helping someone less fortunate than you, that makes you a leftwinger, democrat, socialist, communist, and whatever other label the establishment can place on you. It is just too bad compassion has been dropped from our vocabulary.

Not true. Conservatives and evangelical Christians are by far the most generous people in terms of personal donations and charity. In fact, persons who self identify as "liberal democrats" have the lowest rate of charitable donations of all significant subgroups.

Of course, liberals and liberal demorats are really enthusiastic about donating other peoples' money to the undeserving.

And, in case you haven't noticed it, the "Establishment" is liberal democrats, socialists and leftwingers.

Wilson... I am just sorry you think so many of your fellow men are hypocritical leftwingers. I am just glad I can be confident about leaving this world feeling I may have just left something behind worth following. What do you consider your legacy, or do you care?

I like me some thin mints!!

It's only once a year, so I don't mind ordering from the kids. It makes them happy when you agree to buy a box or two. I do agree that I wish the parents wouldn't do all the leg work, but sometimes its just easier for them to do and in the end they probably raise more money that way, but I can see why it would be better for the kid to actually do the selling. But, more important things in life for me to get worked up over, so regardless I'll be buying thin mints from someone lol.

well, I gave more to charity than Senator and Mrs Omaba did when she was on the board of a non profit hospital corporation and he was in the public trough together earning about 4 times as much as I did, so I am pretty sure that I am doing my part as far as that is concerned.

I'll probably buy some from the people at work whose daughters are scouts; I must admit a I very conflicted due to the left wing doctrine embraced by the national ogranization. Certainly the local troops can't be held to answer for the actions of the national leadership.

I feel much better buying popcorn from boy scouts
