Whenever I'm in town I must eat at Walt's Barbecue on Colerain.

Sarah, I was one of the City-Data meetup attendees and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. And the company. (But then again, I ate MRE's in the military for years and enjoyed THEM...)

Default other suggestions

Nick and Tom's on Bridgetown Road
Rohrer's on US 50/Three Rivers Parkway past Addyston
Sayler Park Tavern on Gracely Drive (although the food hasn't impressed me all that much--I just go there because it's three doors down!)
Diane's has opened at the old Pirate's Den at Anderson Ferry and Sidney roads

This is a difficult question. As you can see, most of the recommendations so far have been a little on on the "dive" side, or at best pub grub or diner fare. Outside of that and the occasional Red Lobster or Outback-type chain, it gets a little tough on the Westside.

If you are in Westwood, Henke Winery is a pleasant enough place. The food is ok, and the wine isn't half bad. Also, just up the street from there is Maury's Tiny Cove. It looks a little dowdy on the outside, but it's a Westside tradition. It's one of the oldest surviving Westside restaurants, and relatively easy on the wallet.

Aside from that the pickings are a little slim. 30 years ago, it would have been easier with places like Schuller's Wigwam, Forest View Gardens, or even Habig's.

When I replied I wasn't thinking Cheviot because it seemed kind of far into town from where the OP asked about. But in Cheviot there are also several diner-type restaurants that have decent food: Stephens, Stone's, and Santorini's. Vitor's Bistro I understand is more upscale, although I've never eaten there. It seems to get very mixed reviews.

Default dives and not dives

I consider the following as "dives":
Diane's on Anderson Ferry
King's Country Inn in Miamitown
Pirate's Den between Glenway Avenue and Werk Road
Rohrer's Tavern on U.S. 50
Sayler Park Tavern on Gracely Drive
Werkhaus Pizza on Werk Road

I do not consider the following as "dives":
Cleves Drive Inn on Miami Avenue
Henke Winery on Harrison Avenue
Kenning's Circle K on Bridgetown Road
Maury's Tiny Cove on Harrison Avenue
Nick and Tom's on Bridgetown Road
Primavista on Matson Place
Ron's Roost on Race Road
Whisky's in Lawrenceburg
I don't know how to classify the restaurants at Hollywood Casino because I haven't been to any of them since the casino was remodeled and renamed.

I forgot about some of those. Werkhouse is nothing fancy, but I wouldn't really call it a dive. It's a casual pizza/Italian place. Hubby drags me there from time to time because he really likes their deep dish pizza. They do a nice spaghetti carbonara. Kenning's, on the other hand, literally serves NOTHING fit to eat other than the hot brown. Go figure.

Enter my vote for Maury's. As was stated previously, it leaves a bit in appearance but the food is excellent and homemade desserts!

I've also had some of the best made on premises soups there I've ever eaten.
