The Time Warner thread and recent personal experience with other companies, not necessarily locally based, but large players in the local market made me have to vent about PR gaffs and poor customer service.

Time Warner has to be at the top of my list...for all of the reasons cited.

Duke Energy is my number 2. They flipped the bird to city by relieving themselves of the nuisance of the Christmas train display downtown, to begin with. Calling their service line with a billing question is a nightmare, and their slash and burn approach to tree trimming is the bane of green, leafy neighborhoods.

I'm also going to put the Enquirer on the list. They made no friends with the new Facebook-only posting requirement. Our local paper is dying a slow death and hasn't yet figured out when the lights are going to go out permanently. They keep putting out a poor product...bad writing, typos, nonsense articles, and AP reprints and seem deluded into thinking the public is going to continue to buy the product. It will be a blow to our civic pride to lose our daily, but it will happen...soon.

Obviously, the common thread here is that none of them have direct competitors, but I could add a few to the list who do have competitors, but this'll do for starters.

The way I got even with Duke for raising their rates is to buy some of their stock some time ago. For years they have paid me a dividend, that tends to rise with time just like their energy bills.

It softens the blow.

I like this. Capitalistic cannibalism, almost.

I wondered how long it would take to get to the Bengals! Not long at all. Yes, there's an organization which has done everything humanly possibly to alienate its customer...and yet it's a shame that the draconian front office overshadows some of the interesting young talent they have.

I can't say much about Fifth Third, since everyone in my family who ever banked with them is dead. But people I know who work there tell me it's much worse on the inside looking out. It's a shame that US Bank is no longer based here. They seem to do a much better job across the board.

Delta airlines doesn't get a lot of love around these parts, although if your company is paying for it the on-time flights are refreshing.

Delta could be blamed for doing more to damage the local economy than even the broader recession. First, by holding us hostage with their hub, and then abandoning us while still telling us we were a hub. Delta is not a sole conspirator in the destruction of CVG, but they are the brand name face of it. I hope for our sake that CVG can recover just enough to retain the businesses that we have, but for the foreseeable future, CVG will be a detractor for future business relocation to region.

Some people just deserve to be ignored. GE is still a substantial employer in Cincinnati. True they have moved some jobs to other locations in an attempt to reduce costs. But at least the majority of those locations are still in the US.
