Toby Keith's is doing fine, it's just in disagreement with The Banks for bringing in country music competitor Tin Roof. This thing is going to court. But the place is slam-packed just about every weekend. It's not struggling at all.

Toby Keith's Facebook post about an hour ago:

We learned earlier today that our landlord initiated litigation alleging that CRGE Cincinnati, LLC dba Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill (“Toby Keith’s”) had breached its rental obligation by failing to pay rent in a timely manner. There has been some concern raised by the local media and others that Toby Keith’s failure to pay rent under the Lease is just a sign that Toby Keith’s is in financial trouble and will be closing its doors. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is simply a contract dispute between the Landlord and the Tenant. While Toby Keith’s has withheld rent from the Landlord, it is in response to what Toby Keith’s believes to be a violation of protections it is provided under its lease agreement with the Landlord. Specifically, Toby Keith’s believes that its exclusive to operate as a country music themed restaurant providing live music is being infringed upon by another Tenant with Landlord’s approval. Toby Keith’s has placed the Landlord on notice that it believes a violation has occurred and the Landlord has failed to cure the violation. Landlord feels otherwise. Unfortunately, at this stage, this issue must play itself out in the courts before a resolution can be reached.

Well, I would think the legalese would be more along the lines of a non-compete agreement. But that's only my best guess.

^^ There is probably a lot of truth in this. If Toby Keiths felt they were granted an exclusive right to a country music themed business in the development they should be more than pissed off and willing to go to court.

But I feel there is something with a little more depth involved here. Why would you pit two head-on competitors against each other? More than that, why would the 2nd competitor sign up knowing they are going to have to slug it out. Are they just acrimonous enough to believe they can be the survivor?

Tin Roof is a live music venue that has country artists, but not always. But, they have live music every night. Toby's does not. And, Toby's beers are infinitely more expensive. Sorry, but $8 for a Budweiser is ridiculous.

Also, Tin Roof's interior is much more welcoming. Toby's due to it being a small concert venue, has a lot of open space to accommodate crowds in the hundreds. When there are no concerts at Toby's, the place can feel like Mammoth Cave even if it's decently crowded due to all the dead space.

Interesting. The TGI Friday's in Hyde Park Plaza closed several months ago. I noticed a sign on the window today that a restaurant called Piada will be opening in that space. It's called Italian street food and it looks to me like an Italian version of Chipotle.

Piada > Home

The company is based out of Columbus where most of its restaurants are located. There are a few around Dayton too.

I've been there before in Columbus... that place grew like wildfire after opening one location in C-bus. It is awesome!

It appears it was started by the same guy who did Brio/Bravo. Looks like a fantastic place for a quick bite.....nice addition to Oakley.
