I have taken the tour and it is well worth it. I'd like to do another this year.

These underground structures were built long before Prohibition. They're not unique to Cincinnati, however Cincinnati has plenty of them still intact.

Most of the Cincinnati breweries closed during Prohibition, if they weren't successful at shifting their production to other comestibles for the duration. This is common knowledge and well-documented (you can do your own research).

Anybody know any more about the Gaslight Clifton grocery store? Last I heard, Goessling had offers from an unnamed "national retailer" to by the store, and it seemed like they were pretty interested from a spate of reports that came out just over a month ago. It would be lovely to be able to avoid driving to Kroger sometime in the future, as much as I do enjoy the one on Mitchell Avenue.

It's just that most of them have not been found, they tend to stumble onto them, or try to find hollow sounding walls. They'll find the large basements they didn't know they had and they are now slowly trying to clean up. Some will also have sub-basements. In the Christian Moerlein tour you can find out a lot about this. There is a building with a sub-basement they found by knocking out a section of the basement floor to see if there was anything under it and there was. There was a room with a 50ft ceiling underneath the basement. It's like finding a warehouse under your building, then cleaning it up and then finding an even bigger warehouse under that. Some of these are not small basements, some are very huge where you could probably host a wedding reception or have a night club. None of these are on any blue prints because they didn't want officials to know they were there. This is one of the problems with finding all of the passages and secret rooms.

There is no way these could be used for transportation, but if they could get all of these connected throughout OTR, it would be one of the coolest things ever to see.
I'd like to go on the Christian Moerlein tour one of these days. I think I'd really enjoy it. And I agree that connecting all those underground tunnels would make for a very cool attraction.

Hyatt Regency Cincinnati completed the renovations of its lobby, 486 existing guest rooms and the addition of five new rooms.

The renovations were part of the downtown hotel’s $23 million makeover, which also included the addition of Red Roost Tavern and the Market, which opened in the hotel's first floor earlier this year.

Plans in motion for Holiday Inn by casino
Quote:
A much smaller version of a Holiday Inn long planned for Downtown near the casino is poised to move forward.

The full-service hotel, originally a $14 million project with 206 rooms, has been scaled back to $8.4 million and 115 rooms, according to an email from the developer, Rolling Hills Hospitality, to the city.

The Holiday Inn & Suites will be 85,000 square feet vs. the 140,000 square feet originally proposed, a Rolling Hills
representative said in the email, which The Enquirer obtained through a public records request.

Northside project aims for "urban, gritty feel"
Quote:
Northsiders are working with an Indianapolis company on a development that they envision transforming the gateway to their community.

About 100 apartments and up to four restaurant spaces are planned for the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Blue Rock Street, a 2.4-acre site that was long home to the Myron Johnson lumberyard. Milhaus Development plans to start the
15-month construction process in April.

“This is one of the hottest spots in the neighborhood, so it will be nice to see something there,” said Martha Dourson, president of the Northside Community Council. “It’s going to end up being a central focus.”

Luxury apartments coming to Rookwood Exchange
Quote:
Jeffery R. Anderson Real Estate Inc., the developer of Rookwood Exchange, is adding 127 luxury apartments to the 13-acre project.

J.R. Anderson, vice president of development for Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate, told me the apartments at Rookwood Exchange will include a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.

They’re targeting young professionals, but expect to see a mix of residents, similar to Current at the Banks, the 300 apartments along Cincinnati’s riverfront.

Cool write-up on neighborhood redevelopment in Northside. In the article it notes that development is happening from within the neighborhood itself. Very cool.
