I parked in the WP garage the other day for the first time. And, as garages go, this one is the nicest I've seen. It's open, spacious and conveniently set up, marked and located. It's going to be a HUGE upgrade for people headed to Music Hall or anywhere else in the neighborhood.

And Washington Park itself looks amazing. This city really does have some elite, world-class parks and public spaces.

Has anyone heard any news concerning that unfinished monstrosity around Galbraith and Montgomery in Kenwood? That thing is a giant eyesore and a waste of tens of millions of dollars.

Here's the latest I have seen concerning a Federal Grand Jury probe into the situation.

You can see from the Grand Jury probe I posted this is one huge court fight. The Federal Grand Jury is trying to determine whether criminal charges should be filed. There are already umpteen civil suits which have been filed. The civil suits are unlikely to have any action taken until the criminal situation is settled. A judge had OKed the sale of the complex at a Sheriff's Auction in July. This has been delayed due to an action filed by a group of contractors and sub-contractors. I am sure they will contend an auction sale may result in their being shut out completely from any of the money they are owed. The same group has already filed suit against Bank of America contending they conspired with the developer to divert construction funds for Kenwood Place to pay bills for other projects of the same developer.

It is one big mess. Reminds me of the Erpenbeck Scandal.

As far as the eyesore, take heart. Structural steel is going to rust if left exposed. But it takes quite a few years to do any actual damage. A little sandblasting and a coat of bridge primer and it will be just fine. Of course they could also just cut it off and crane the pieces down for scrap. How about a rooftop restaurant where the tower was supposed to be?

So continuation of construction is still possible? I thought, even under the best of circumstances, they'd have to tear down the upper floors and start again.

That rusting hulk is beyond an eyesore and is, unfortunately, on full display for visitors to Cincinnati heading downtown to see a Reds game or up to Kings Island/tennis center or those people just passing through. And I can't imagine that the Kenwood Towne Centre tenants are too thrilled about it either.

Yea, when the crane was still up for a year or two after construction stopped at least it looked like it was under construction. Now, though, blah.

SouthShore developer starting second phase
Quote:
A more than $15 million apartment development is breaking ground in Newport Thursday, adding 93 residential units along the Ohio River.
Capital Investment Group Inc., the Cincinnati development company that developed SouthShore Condominiums, is starting on the second phase of the development, to be called Vue 180. The 93 rental units will be built above structured parking.

I am excited to see this start. That open land has been sitting too long. I am not looking forward to the traffic though.
