The buildings are nicer in the bigger cities in part because land prices are so much higher, meaning building design and material upgrades represent a smaller percentage of a project's overall cost. Also, they generally build smaller parking garages because they have subways. In New York City it is actually illegal to build parking for a skyscraper. The new Bank of America Tower on Bryant Park is twice as big as Cincinnati's new Queen City Square tower and has zero parking spots.

Therefore, I'm not so keen on condemning this final step of what will add even more high-end retail to the northeast sector of the city.

BTW--this time around, the Enquirer did a decent job in its detailed update on this development. Very informative.

Kenwood is suburban but it's far closer to Cincinnati than it is to Mason, West Chester, Eastgate, NKY, etc. And it's in the county, which sorely needs additional sales tax revenue. So this is a good thing. Coupled with Rookwood, that area is easily the metro's premiere upscale shopping destination.

Now, let's really take some steps forward and link Kenwood to downtown via light rail along the Montgomery Road corridor!

The Beach will reopen next year under a new name. That's a good thing - it adds to our critical mass of destinations which draws tourists to the region. There's no doubt that the Cincinnati area competes with Gatlinburg, Sandusky and elsewhere for the trill-seeking summer tourists.

Hey I agree. It at least throws another hat in the ring. I have no idea whether they will be successful. But if we don't compete for all of the tourist dollars, whether it is downtown along the riverfront or in the outlying suburbs where such as KI and the Beach are located, we are in a comptition with many areas around the country and we have to fight for our fair share. Thankfully Cincinnati has much to offer for the out-of-town visitor.

Kings Island should have just bought it and have it as an expanded area of the park. Maybe link it with the mono rail across I-71.

I was in Kenwood when I was in Cincinnati. That area, if the plans continue as they should, will be a very rare area for shopping that you don't find too often around the country. Kenwood reminded me a lot of Beachwood Place here in Cleveland. Rookwood was like Legacy Village. Both have Nordstroms and Nordstrom Rack within a short drive of eachother, and that proves there is a lot of wealth in the area. Most states do not even have a Nordstrom Rack. The mall itself also seemed to be going under significant renovations. Glad to see the tower will be finished.

Finishing the tower will not add much to the retail ambiance, as it is designed to be an office tower. All that does is increase the already oppressive traffic situation. So other than a tower in the sky for people to oh-and-ah about there is little to be gained and quite a bit to be lost. This development was a loser from day one and should have never been started. Now it should be cut short of its original aims to give some semblance of decorum to the Kenood area.
