I thought you said you were coming from India. If so I wouldn't worry too much, the overall level of living conditions in the US are quite good. People here don't necessarily have the perspective of having been to poorer countries and thus to see how their conditions compare.

Most places in Gaslight will be fine and just make sure some clause about bedbugs is in your contract like someone else posted.

Safe location (mugging, break in free )
Inexpensive (would like to live with one of my friend, we do not need separate rooms)
Decent Location (few eating joints , grocery shops)
Few places for enjoyment, if possible (Bar, Theaters )

University has suggested few apartment but I guess they are very expensive, Here are they:

University Park Apartments
Bellevue Gardens

Could you please give your opinion on with respect to rent and location?

Forum Apartments
Jefferson Avenue
Clifton Heights
UPA (University Park) is right next to campus, however, their fees listed for rent includes everything. Bellevue Gardens is closer to the hospital side of campus.

If you go to the City of Cincinnati's website, they break down the crime stats for you. UC sets in the middle of two of the most violent police districts in the city.

You CAN find safe, cheaper places in the Clifton Gaslight district. My niece had a place in the gaslight district that was $525 for two people, and it included everything. So it can be done. Plus, UC does offer a shuttle that goes to nearby locations in the surrounding neighborhoods.

I would avoid living on Ohio, Mcmillian, and those areas. Students tend to get robbed and/or beaten ALOT at night around there.

Those areas are just fine. Stop with trying to make this sound like a bad area. Crime happens all around UC, even on Campus. Check Nixle to see what I am talking about.
