Hi. Is US 50 (and River Road) primarily a 2 lane or 4 lane road heading west of downtown? Is this a nice way (and scenic way) to eventually get over to 74 heading towards Indy? Thanks!

US 50 is not a very convenient way to get from downtown to I-74. US 50 basically takes you to Lawrenceburg and then Aurora Indiana on the river. Prior to getting to Lawrenceburg you have to get on I-275 and backtrack to I-74.

It has been so long since I have driven the entire length I honestly do not know. Maybe someone else will chime in with a reply.

Hi iowahawk1--

It's a 4 lane road almost its' entire length except for a small section soon after the highway section ends in Cincinnati. There's only a few traffic lights along the way though, speed limit gradually increases as you pass the Dent area, up to 55 as you get into Indiana. I've used that road a few times on the way to the boat when I picked up a friend who lived near downtown. You can make just as good time there as you would taking 71/75 to 275 (and probably save gas due to fewer miles driven).

Going to the casino near Lawrenceburg US 50 makes a lot of sense, but if your intent is to take I-74 to Indy you are better off taking I-75 north to the intersection of I-74 and taking it from there as it is shorter and faster. If you are just looking for a more scenic drive along the river and not too concerned about time and distance then use US 50.

Be careful, not mentioned, of the strict police in the smaller towns along the way to your destination. Small towns like these need money and have strict cops who will easily pull you over and fine you for any small infraction, I mention this because this happened to me when I was driving through the Addyston section of the road, I was pulled over for going 43 in a 40 but fought the ticket in court, just be careful!
