Here's what WCPO has to say.

Best places to get chili in the Tri-State

I have never had chili at Terry's Turf Club and will now have to try it.

Terry's turf club makes chili out of filet mignon. It is excellent, but it is not really a fair comparison, kind of like comparing a hamburger patty vs a filet. It is most definitely not Cincinnati style chili.

Filet Mignon? Geez, I guess not. All the spots I have been to use beef crumbles.

If you're lucky. I can remember being at a Reds game as a kid and after an advertisement for JTM played on the jumbotron a guy in front of us said "JTM... jeez, is this meat?" Never looked at ol' JTM the same after that.

I don't disagree. JTM is some sort of soy-based product, but I am not sure what. A JTM hoagie has exactly what to do with a hoagie? Definitely my lowest grade commercial product in the area. But I must grant them one thing, sales volume is up. I guess that says volumes about what the rest of us know about quality.

Habits cafe in Oakley makes a white bean chicken chili that is quite good, or at least they used to. I heard they revamped the menu but I hope they didn't change the chili recipe. These days if I am going to overindulge at a bar, I do it with food rather than booze. Give me a bacon cheese potato rag, a bowl of chili, and a club sandwich with fries over the course of a college football game and a guarantee I am having more fun than the guy sitting next to me that had ten drinks.

My wife and I argue about JTM all the time. I contend they are the biggest pile of crap to come down the line. She buys them because she like the packaging. OK, then eat the packaging because it is better than the contents. The wife volunteered for a fundraiser here in town where they were serving JTM burgers. You could not pay people to take them let alone pay for them.

In 1991, I bought a big box TV to watch the Super Bowl (all are on sale then). We were new to Cinti & celebrating. We got $100 of JTM products as a bonus with our purchase. I served it to our new neighbors - I spit it out & they enjoyed! Hometown favorite!

Are there any Chili Companies still around? They were big through the 90s. Lebanon had one - kinda seemed like a biker place when I went there once in '97. (it's now the Breakfast Club.)
