I totally understand the liability issue of apartment and property owners. You choose to own a dog (no matter how nice it is) that has one of the highest incidents of biting people and is unpredictable.

From an apartment owners perspective you have a "loaded weapon" and if someone gets hurt they are likely to find themselves party to a lawsuit. General liability insurance for the owner of a rental is not cheap to start with and its often astromomical with dogs in the equation. Dogs chew and scratch up apartments and far too often the security deposit doesn't cover the repair costs. There is nothing illegal about a no dogs policy.

If you love your dog, contact your insurance agent see if you can get some liability insurance. If you prove you are responsible dog owner that may help, you with finding a better apartment or condo.

These days most homeoeners do not realize that insurance companies are often charging special riders if you own a dog like pit bull.

Like it or not these dogs are a liability issue and everyday somone's 'nice dog' turns and mauls, or kills, some child and we see the incredulous owner of the dog exclaiming that their dog has always been so nice.

I wish you the best but expect to pay the price to keep your pet.

I also recommend going to the VOA park dog event tomorrow. I don't know how many dog events they have each year, but they seem to be well attended. Since this one specifically says they will have pitbull advocates in attendance, perhaps you can get some input on where the dogs are accepted for rentals. At least you should be able to converse with people of similar likings.

And a note on CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification, it's a good thing to do for ALL dog owners. If anyone wants to look into it, here's an info link. The Blockheads group sometimes gets a group together for training and certification testing as well.

After nearly five months we'll probably never know.
But thank you for reopening the thread 'cause the issue is still out there.

I don't know if you ever found a place that would take your lovely companion. If not I know of a place just 10-15 min from downtown currently open for rent that the landlord does not discriminate against pitbulls. I hope you did find an agreeable residence. If not please contact me and I will give you the necessary information. Hope this finds you both well.
