And why would the city want to cut down on building heights, when just down river Louisville breaks ground tomorrow on a building 15 stories and 150 feet taller than anything in Cincinnati?
That's precisely one of my points. Louisville has the vision to do something bold like that. The people down there are all for Museum Plaza. They embrace the bold and new. They aren't afraid to do "big". Try to find that kind of attitude among Cincinnatians, and you'll run into a brick wall. For some reason, people up here worship Carew Tower, and they feel that anything taller will somehow ruin what Cincinnati "is". I say that's a bunch of crap! Yeah, Carew Tower is a nice building - but for crying out loud, outside of New York City, Cincinnati is the only major city in the U.S. whose tallest building predates WW2. Who knows when, or if, Queen City Square 2 will ever be built, and even then it won't be as tall as Museum Plaza.

Like Ohiogirl81 said, the reason for lowering the height of the buildings in the Banks has to do with a bunch of business leaders and building owners who didn't want their precious views of the river obscured. I think it's STUPID, but whatever. I certainly don't think the possibility of a 30-story tower at the Banks project should have warranted almost derailing the project for years to come - which could have happened.

Another reason, though, is that it also has to do with the [stupid] agreement Cincinnati has with the Bungles....er, Bengals....which states they have the right to veto any plans for buildings over a certain height in the Banks project. I wish like everything that the voters would have told the Bengals to take a hike instead of caving in to their whiny demands for a new stadium, lest they move the team out of town. But what's done is done.

OK, enough saracasm.

I dunno why. Maybe to keep from creating another downtown building canyon (my vote, LOL)? To preserve the look of the skyline? Beats me ...
See, you nailed it right there. It's a perfect example of Cincinnati's unwillingness to move forward and change....they want to preserve the look of the skyline. I'm not saying it's an ugly skyline, no. But I also don't think new buildings on the riverfront, or taller buildings downtown, would detract away from the look of the city skyline. I would simply see them as enhancements.

At the end of the day, Skyline is Cincinnati's favorite chili, no matter what anyone tells your, or if someone says its not "real" chili. It's ours, none the less, and its the best. People who visit always seem to hate it though... oh well, more for me.
They don't all hate it. But when they hear "chili", they don't expect what you get at Skyline or Goldstar. They tend to think more along the lines of Texas chili, with tomatoes, beans, chunks of ground beef (instead of being finely ground ala Cincinnati chili), red peppers, chili powder, etc...

I was like no, you don't want that place lol! I guess it is kind of unique for this region, and it is kind of a Cincinnati "cultural" thing.
YAY! Another Goldstar fan! Oh, I can deal with Skyline sometimes. I simply prefer Goldstar. But I suppose that makes me less than a real native Cincinnatian.

Do you by chance know if the "The Dock" is still open? Have you heard of it?

Yes it is still open to my knowledge. I've never been there, but I believe it is a gay bar/club of sorts. Like I said...haven't been there personally, but my friends that are gay have gone there quite a bit.

Just thought I should go on the record here...Skyline is better for 3-ways and the like...while Goldstar is better for Cheese Coneys. But the fact of the matter is that they both pale in comparison to the quality neighborhood chili places around the city (Camp Washington Chili, Price Hill Chili and Blue Ash Chili in particular.

It's been a LOOOOONG time since I ate at Camp Washington Chili, so I've probably forgotten how good it is. Can't say I've even been to Blue Ash Chili. Might have to check it out sometime.

Thanks for the info on The Dock. It's been years since I was there. Was just curious.

So what is THE best chili? I want the real NATTI experience. I don't mind holes...Campanello's was my favorite eats so far, and I have eaten at two of the top 5 rated places in town already. Is Blue ash chili the best?

^Camp Washington Chili will get the vote of most people who have tried the different options. That's the one you should give a whirl, but Skyline is really the chili landmark of Cincinnati...you should try it out of shear respect.

LMAO, the Dock! I always had a blast there with my gay male friends. Also, female friends and I would sit in the window at the Second Street Tavern (RIP), drinkin' beer and watching the guys go by on their way to the Dock.

As for chili, I do prefer Price Hill Chili. Love the chili omelet, too. stx12499, you ought to try it. As they say, the west side is the best side. Heh.

cincyUK, it's not that non-natives hate Cincinnati-style chili. It's just that they've never had it before, and it's different from any other chili they've ever eaten. Chili over spaghetti? Chocolate and cinnamon in the chili? WTF? Definitely an acquired taste, LOL. I had Gold Star when I first moved to the area, got sick (probably wasn't Gold Star's fault, but the copious amounts of beer consumed beforehand ...), and I'll bet it took me 10 years to try Cincinnati chili again. I was thrilled when Skyline added some non-chili stuff to its menu! Took another 10 years to become a dedicated 5-way addict.

WCRob, that was the thinking in Cleveland for years with the Terminal Tower, that there should be no other skyscrapers on Public Square to "protect" the look of the square and Terminal Tower. Thankfully that attitude broke. The Key Bank tower -- the only building taller than the Terminal Tower -- and the BP Tower certainly don't detract from Public Square or the Terminal Tower at all. The BP Tower was supposed to be taller, but TIIC rejected the original plans, and the BP Tower was purposely built to be several stories shorter. Oy.

Skyline has been in Louisville for years with locations all over, and I am not a fan. When I fist got to LOuisville I thought it was odd as hell when I went to any restaurant and ordered chili and they asked "with or without noodles." So it must be a Cincinnati/Louisville thing? I will try Price Hill

I have lived in the city and outside of the city limits for a total of 44 years. Properly raised, product of the Cincinnati Public Schools, and have worked for the betterment of my community for a total of 22 years. Father was an icon in the city of Cincinnati and made a impact on our diversity issues in this city. Raised in North Avondale, which was a diverse neighborhood while I was growing up and still today it has many diverse families who remain from the days of my youth.

We may not agree on what has happened and that is fine, but please do not discredit my opinion of this city for what I know to be truth unto me. I love this city, but it must make some monumental changes to continue its legacy as being the "QUEEN CITY' which embraces all generations and has a potential future for those who are young and wanting to stay or remain in our city. These young folks, who by the way are just wanting to have a chance for upward mobility and a way of life that will not only serve them well, but their potential families as well. These would be in places where they can live and raise their families that are without the higher crime ridden areas of our neglected city.

Onward and great success to those communities that are outside of the inner city, which offer better living standards by all means unknown to CINCINNATI!!!

Depends on the scene you're looking for. Northside's bars, the Tavern, Comet, Gypsy Hut, etc. are decidedly more hipster friendly than mainstream. That's a good thing; that's why I go to those bars. But your average party-seeker is going to get more out of downtown.
