Default Own Police Department

While Golf Manor has changed in demographics, the feeling of safety is there. It has its own police department and the officers seem to know the community. There are a few "group homes" and "managed apartments" for people who are in need of assistance. This is how I've come to be in the community & get that safe vibe.

It may have been Stanleys. I do remember that the comics were against the front wall and Milk Shake candy bars were 5 cents.

The place next door could have been a dry cleaners or possibly a hair salon? I just remember that it was of no interest to me other than a place I passed going from the drug store to Boerger's. My favorite at Boerger's BTW was the 2 dip Rainbow Cone. I once managed to drop both dips on the sidewalk at the corner of Stover and Losantaville while trying to lick and ride my bike at the same time.

No, Stanleys was the Deli and Plotnicks was the pharmacy. Mr Plotnick and Rinsky still work at Roselawn Pharmacy in Valley Shopping center.

So, looking at the stores from the street, Plotnicks was on the left, then Stanleys then Boergers?

Or am I totally confused?

I grew up in Golf Manor. First on Wiehe, then on Elbrook at Canterbury. This was during the 70's. I was on the swim team for many years and went to Losantiville Elementary. I had many friends who went to the Golf Manor Synagogue.

I am pretty sure Plotnik's, then Stanley's, then Boerger's was right.

Remember Buchhiem Bakery? And the Flea Market across the street? And, of course, Losantiville Lanes is were I spent alot of my childhood.

I have driven on some side streets recently. Canterbury has changed it's name to Chuck Harmon Way. I haven't been down Losantiville toward Reading Rd., so I haven't seen what businesses are still there.

The end of Stover near Langdon Farm always had some run down looking apartments, and some of the apartments around Elbrook & Losantiville looked not so good, but most of the houses I've seen are well taken care of. Some of the side roads still look, to me, to be very quaint and quiet.

Lots of memories there!

I also lived on Elbrook and left there in 1959. I'm sure I walked past your houses on Wiehe and Elbrook. My best friend lived on Yosemite and I used to go down Canterbury to get there.

Didn't know that Canterbury had changed names. I knew Chuck Harmon's niece, BTW.

I don't remember the bakery - where was it?

Buchheim Bakery was on Wiehe, but on the dead end on the north side of town. Actually, if you were standing at Obermeyer's, looking at Losantiville Lanes, it would be on the left side of the bowling alley, but with the entrance facing Wiehe.

In doing a Google search {of which I hardly found anything}, I found out that the Buchheim's went on to own Maya's Restaurant and Pastry Shop in Blue Ash.

Here is one of the only things I found:
From Mom's kitchen to you

I was just looking at a map of Golf Manor, and Canterbury is still there, but changes to Pieper Way between Hammel & Elbrook. This was not the case when I lived there. Is "Pieper" maybe someone noteworthy?

Chuck Harmon Way is Rosedale. Rosedale runs from Wiehe to Elbrook, then changes to Chuck Harmon Way from Elbrook to Hammel.

BPreger - good luck with your search. I can tell you that my husband grew up in Golf Manor on Brookcrest and attended Ohav Shalom on Section Rd. However, Ohav Shalom has now moved out to Blue Ash on Cornell Road just past Sycamore High School. There is also a place called the Chabad House on Hunt Road where many Orthodox Jews are members. They are a very strong community. You will always see families walking to Shul on Friday nights and Saturdays. The Chabad House also has a Mikvah.

There are many Jewish services in that area as well. Just about a mile from the shul is Kroger Grocery which has within it a Kosher shop. They provide fresh kosher meats a deli and a fairly large variety of kosher staples. There is also a Biggs in Pleasant Ridge with the same food options.

In Blue Ash on Hunt there is a kosher restaurant and deli called Avari's. They are open Mon - Fri closing early on Fri and all day Saturday. Many familys will order kosher meals from there for various funtions.

I hope this helps in your search. While Roselawn and Golf Manor are still viable options most will tell you that many have moved to the Northeast towards. There are three temples in Amberly. I believe two are Reform and one is Conservative.

Good Luck.

As I recall, the retail building on Losantiville between Stover and Obermeyer's had Sobel's drug store, Klostermann's bakery, Boerger's dairy and one other store.

My friend's mom worked at Plotnick's drug store which was in the next block past the UDF. I remember Stanley's, Bucheims's and a hobby shop also in that building.
