Social Service in Cincinnati
Does anyone here in Cincinnati, Ohio know of any social services that are currently hiring a seasoned professional with sixteen years of experience serving families and children in Hamilton and Butler County. I have recently attained a master degree in family and child studies in May and I am looking forward to returning to Cincinnati.
I am attempting to find employment and it has been quite difficult, although I have only been looking for three months. I also have 9 years of marketing and social science research experience. They have informed me at the One Stop that Ohio is not faring well with professional employment opportunities and if this is true I assume that I may need to leave the area. I get responses from Kentucky, but none from my hometown.

Every week I look at the Ohio State job site and I have applied for a couple of positions over the last couple of months. Many others are applying as well.
I know that it is important to have networking contacts here in Cincinnati, but they do not seem to be as productive as I thought they would be. I am not one that will continue to ask someone to assist me after I have tried to make at least three attempts. People are just really busy today or either they are not being honest about wanting to assist me.
I have the patience of Job, but my income is dwindling down and sooner or later I will have no choice but to settle for something to survive if I am not deemed to be overqualified for the position. There is nothing that is beneath me and I have good work ethics, so if it is a hotel, warehouse, etc. work that I must do to survive-so be it. I still have a glimmer of hope.

Talbert House sends out an employment newsletter via e-mail every week or two weeks; the postings include direct service and administrative positions.
Try Family Service of the Cincinnati Area, too. They're always hiring (whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on the situation ... but most social service agencies have a fairly high turnover rate anyway), and have programs in Ohio and Northern Kentucky as well.
Good luck!

Thanks Ohiogirl 81. Talbert House does alot of hiring for LSW OR MSW workers, which is not the degree I have, but we share many of the same duties. I just do not have the clinical experience nor educational credits to become licensed. I need a couple more classes to get my certificate to be a Family/Child Life Educator which compliments my degree in the area of family relations/adolescent development. I went back to school to get my master's to compliment my work experience-14 years of social service work. Social Service vs. Social Work. There lies the difference. I have been looking at the Family Service agency too and will send out a resume to them this week. Kentucky has some really neat positions and the salaries are decent for their cost of living rate, and that may be the direction I will need to go. Their are numerous positions in Louisville and Lexington. I was called for a couple of interviews, but turned them down to ensure that I did not miss out on any opportunities here in Cincinnati. I cannot afford to turn down any future offers.

If you have any questions about relocation to Louisville, including specifics of which are the best areas to live in based on your interests and age groups, just let me know!

I have been researching the Louisville area for quite some time. Matter of fact, it was the first place I considered for a position in my field. I have always wanted to leave Cincinnati, but I felt obligated to stay the closer I got to graduation and decided to continue to serve the most vulnerable populations in our communities. Well, if nothing materializes from all the resumes I have submitted thus far in this city, I will have to carry out my assignment and purpose elsewhere.
The cost of living is fantastic in Louisville and I would like to know more about their taxes. I am aware that the car insurance is higher in Kentucky compared to Ohio. I have become accustomed to the country out here in Butler County and have enjoyed attending school out here as well. I have lived in the city, suburbs, and country and prefer the latter one day in my older life. For now I will stick with the suburbs. I welcome your suggestions. I prefer family oriented neighborhoods with decent schools and close to shopping areas.
Who is hiring in Clermont County? I will also perform a search on their county site. Thanks for the information. I appreciate it greatly.

Louisville the city is similar in size to Cincy...it is also safer and a bit cleaner. As far as suburbs go, Cincy has almost twice as many and thus the metro area sprawls much further and creates more traffic (Louisville metro is 1.2 million compared to 2 million in Cincy). In Louisville, you can live in a country like area and be downtown in 20 minutes. I think you would like NE Jefferson County (Prospect), Oldham County (Crestwood), and Shelby County (Simpsonville). With the horses and what not, its beautiful country down here! If you would like more specific advise, let me know. With the exception of pro sports, Louisville offers about the same cultural amenities as Cincy and is less sprawled/spread out but growing denser in the downtown area.
