I was wondering who is the better trash service in the Mason/Landen area? I have heard Rumpke but I also see the Republic trucks around as well. I have the normal trash with a large item every now and then. Any thoughts?

Quite honestly I do not recognize Republic. Normally a suburban jurisdictiion, whether it be city or township contracts with a given provider to provide trash service. It is usually not a select the service you like. Unless they have sufficient subscribers they cannot afford to operate in a given area.

We used to have a different service out here in the northern suburbs, but that was when there was a landfill out near South Lebanon along the little Miami river. When that became full and the state refused to grant an expansion they closed up shop and left.

Rumpke is the King Gorilla of the trash business in Cincinnati. You will hear about Mt Rumpke on the west side. In Mason, our service is with Rumpke, the cost of which is attached to our water bill. I have no particular problems with their service. I have had them pick up old refrigerators, the only condition I have a sticker on it indicating the refrigerant had been removed. I have frankly set out trash I was embarrassed by the volume and they have taken it. But it is something to inquire about. I know of one jurisdiction closer to Cincinnati which tries to keep all costs down, but their contract with Rumpke specifies one 32 gal trash container per week.

Recently Rumpke provided all of us with a large bin on wheels labeled Recycling. This is obviously the wave of the future and they send two trucks around every collection day. I know this is epensive but we have to cut down the amount of refuse going into the landfills. I feel Rumpke is recognizing and taking a lead in this area. They have relaxed significantly what items can be put into Recycling, taking on the burden of sorting at their facility. They are large enough to invest in sorting facility, etc. Their coverage area goes all the way to Indianapolis.

Again, I do not recognize Republic. I know they are in the waste disposal business, but far as I know not around here.

Republic is one of the larger waste haulers in the state of Ohio but does most of its business in Northern and Central Ohio.

I have used them on occasion for COMMERCIAL waste pick up.
