I was given the priveledge of planning our 2013 holiday party. Last year we had it at the Oasis Golf Club in Montgomery and it worked well; however, there were concerns about drinking and driving since there was not a hotel in walking distance. I've only lived in this city for 6 months...can ya'll help me with some suggestions to look at? Requirements:

1. Hotel attached or within walking distance
2. Large enough for 350 people sitting down (buffett dinner), 30 "casino night" tables, DJ & Dance floor
3. Relatively close to Sharronville. Our plant is at 275 and 75.

Thanks in advance!

Why haven't you selected the obvious - the Sharonville Convention Center? There is a motel right across the street. Oasis? That is not in Montgomery, it is in East Jesus somewhere. Are you for real? I kind of doubt it. If you are at I-75 and I-275 and don't know about the Sharonville Convention Center you are more than cloistered, you are dead.

I haven't selected the obvious because as I mentioned before...I've only lived here for 6 months. I have no clue what exists. My appologies...the Oasis is in Loveland but right off 275. That was a bit of a drive for everyone, but the price was right so we made it work. In a perfect world, we'd be within 10 miles of our facility.

All that said, the convention center looks like a good option. I'm open to others!

The Sharonville convention center should be what you want. If they are not receptive to a reasonable price, here are a few others.

The Manor House in Mason on Mason Mongomery Rd. They can handle a quite large crowd with the whole facility. Closer than the Oasis.

Contact the banquet center at the Winton Woods golf center. 300 may be pushing their capacity, but it is a nice facility.

Try the Crowne Plaza hotel right across the street from the Sharonville convention center.

I don't know a whole lot about Sharonville, but have gone to the convention center for their home show (coincidentally starts today and runs this weekend) and its a very easy location to get to. Chester Road, just off of Kemper (just West of I-75, though there's no exit). There are definitely many hotels in that area, and the convention center itself is quite a nice space.

I don't know if they do meals, but I would imagine it would be easy for a caterer to work there.

Theres a small conference center in WestChester (I can't think of the name) that is just off of Union Center, (next exit off of I-75, North of I-275) there are many hotels right there (within 1 mile). Also the Mariott in WestChester (I-75 and Union Center, literally right at the exit) hosts a lot of functions in the very lovely lobby/convention room area on the first floor. My company has held many training events at this location and they were done very well with nice catering.

You should have a lot of options. And all of the ones I've referred to should be able to accomodate 300 people, no problem.

It has been over 10 years since I have been to the Oasis. The facility was quite new then and very pleasant. The occasions were same as yours - company holiday party. I do remember some incidents concerning DWI (I still prefer over OVI) and you are right no motels within reasonable hailing distance.

The Manor House I pointed out in Mason has the same problem. A couple of miles to the motels at the Fields Ertel I-71 Exit. I have attended a few events there and frankly was not impressed with their food, which was individually served to the table. I wondered why not buffet style but maybe that was the choice of the sponsor. By the time the food got to the table it had definitely degraded. Gourmet quality it was not, but gourmet price definitely.

The hotels recommended both in the Sharonville and the Union Centre area I would question on both capacity and price. A mid-day business type event is right up their alley. Business meeting type rooms with folding partitions to tailor capacity and set up some tables in the hall for a buffet lunch service. But hardly a party atmosphere, not intended to be.

But a night-time party including dinner folowed by a casino table type party atmosphere, and I assume people not expecting to be shooed out quickly, I would doubt their capacity. Handling your event and their normal evening restaurant/lounge trade I would be concerned would overtax them.

There is another location, Wunderland Banquet Hall over on Colerain Ave. just south of Ronald Reagan. It is a very nice facility and I have been there several times for specific holiday such as Thanksgiving and Easter Events. I have always been pleased with the quality of the food they serve buffet style. But immediately comes up the fact there is not a decent motel anywhere within hailing distance.

I only have one good suggestion. Have places like Oasis, Manor House, and Wunderland bid competitively for your business. Then advise everyone who might be inclined to overindulge to band together and hire a stretch limo to take them to the party and back, splitting the bill.

My former company tried the drink tickets per individual approach to control the consumption. All that got them was you cheapskates comments, people just paid the per drink cost at the bar. Finally their lawyers convinced the company the way juries decide today they had their necks stuck straight out and the holiday parties were discontinued.

By the time the holiday parties were discontinued I was retired. It rather rankled me, because invitation to the company holiday party had been extended to retirees for years. Just another small way to eek out a sum from the company.

Just this week, I received an email saying someone I worked for years ago had passed at age 101. The next day I receive a notification this is a mistake and he is very much alive and well. The followup indicates such. God Bless you Bill Whalen, one of the consumate professionals I ever had the pleasure to work with.

Don't forget the real obvious answer, the Holiday Inn at Rt 42 and I-275.
