I posted this in the Indiana forum but thought it may be helpful to post here also since Hidden Valley is close to Cincinnati. Does anyone have information regarding Hidden Valley or the schools the kids attend there?

Interesting you are considering Hidden Valley Lake. It was definitely developed years ago as a country lake-front quasi-resort type community for Cincinnati. Lawrenceburg was the closest small town on the river. There was a similar development out on the east side of Cincinnati called Lake Lorelei. They appealed to city dwellers who wanted a country-style living. Either built as a weekend only retreat or a farly long daily commute for the adventerous. So there was a mix of nice permanent homes and lean-to squatters shanties side by side.The Attraction to survive. Those only interested in gambling will flock to the new casinos in Ohio until they too are over saturated and begin to fail.

I've never lived in Hidden Valley, but I have family who did and some co-workers who still do. When I moved over the summer I thought about looking into Hidden Valley but everyone I know who lives or lived there warned me not to. I always thought it was a nice place and it is in a great safe location. But those who live there always complain about it. Something about all kinds of extra fees, issues with the water supply, things like that.

I heard the same thing regarding the fees and water from a co-worker of mine. He commuted all the way to downtown Cincy. It was a long-haul drive and worst during rush hour. If you work on the west side, I could see it being reasonable, but anywhere east of I-75 (i.e. Blue Ash, Montgomery, Mason, etc), I would look elsewhere.
I am not familiar with the schools in Indiana but did notice the SD district was pretty spread out in territory.

In Clermont County Lake Lorelei came first. The radio ads for it are only faintly recalled, but consisted of Hawaiian luau-type music. Lake Waynoka followed not too many years later. Their radio campaign I remember better because of content that would never clear the PC Police today: A jingle, "Come to wonderful, carefree Lake Waynoka," was sung over a back-beat of tom-toms. Then - with the tom-toms still going and a "cupped" trumpet honking - "Look...for...Indian...signs!"
Hidden Valley Lake's promos were kept simple, over a generic Muzak soundtrack.
All three were obviously developed for retirees from a certain economic bracket. Whether provided by nature or manufactured, I suspect the lakes were kept stocked for Gramps to have all the fun fishing outings he could stand. (One has to suppose that Grandma had to be content with cleaning and decorating the house, working in the garden, and chatting with new and former neighbors.)
None would be closer to 275 than a half-hour's drive or so, so considering any of them is a curious thing for the OP to be doing. They've probably become more multi-generational in their populations but none of the school districts are anything spectacular. Not that the original target demographic particularly cares.

What was the attraction of these small lakes (ponds) atmosphere of years ago? I always considered them to be retirement communities. I suspect Hidden Valley had some sort of a short in the arm with the casino in Lawrenceburg. With all of the intervening years I could see Hidden Valley being attractive to workers at the Lawrenceburg casino.

Was Hidden Valley really built in the 1970's? It must have been extremely small at that time if it was. I thought it was the late 80's / early 90's? I at least remember at that time was then most of the building and expansion occurred in Hidden Valley.

I'm not exactly sure either where the kids in Hidden Valley go to high school. I imagine it would be either Lawrenceburg HS which is closer to them than South Dearborn HS. They may even go to East Central. You're right the SD district is extremely spread out and rather confusing. I think most of the kids from there who go to catholic high school actually go to Elder, since there is no catholic high school in that part of Indiana.
