I did not make a racist comment, I am very sorry if anyone took it that way. I am from Columbus and I am anything but racist.

Moving to one of the "high income, white" suburbs of Cincinnati would surely help in this guys crime issues.

I have empathy for the struggling poor white and black populations of Cincinnati, and all over America. Stating that there is (a fact) a poor African-American population is not racist.
"High Income" is in quotes, believe me i live in the innercity of Columbus myself, in a diverse area. I am quoting "high income, white" from the mouths of many surban minded people. I think that it would be great if this poster could stay in the city, but with the crime issues and poor populations, it may be hard for him to. It's a shame. And the poor African-American population is just one element to why crime exists, poverty and crime is not any color, its white and black.
I was originally responding to a post that said if this poster leaves urban Cincinnati the crime will exist at the same level in the suburbs. Yes, there's crime everywhere, but really is it at the same level in the suburbs? I want to see a stat. showing so.
To ignore the issues will do nothing to solve the problem..
Cincinnati has many rough areas, and a lot of this does have to do with it being an older city and having an older African-American population that suffered though much job loss and crime growth. Other cities in the country like New Orleans or Detroit suffer the same issues. Cincinnati was one of the first places that African-Americans migrated to, then Cleveland and Dayton. Because of the large, older population there was a lot of job loss in the community (during de-industrialization, suburban sprawl, and thus an more poor and isolated inner-city population both black and white.) This is just one factor to Cincinnati's crime and poverty issues.

Interpretation
Streetcreed I have no qualms with what you mentioned, we just have to ensure that we are sensitive to the manner in which people may misinterpret what you are writing. Intended meanings need to be more throughly expressed, yet I was speaking to the poster before me about how I have observed lines of written passage that appear to be racist to me, but evidently the monitors do not share my analysis.

In this struggling market you guys could buy a house for less than rent. If your credit is good enough to support a mortgage go buy a house and rent the other rooms out to your buddies, I know many people who have done this. If not, just search around online, there are so many houses and apartments for rent it is ridiculous.

I'm sorry, but I must be missing something here. Are you saying that since you're from Cbus that you are obviously not a racist??!! I don't get that at all...it's almost as if you are saying that people from Cincinnati are racists or that Cbus is a sanctuary of understanding and open-mindedness.
Bottom line is that crime in Cincinnati is not nearly what it is made out to be. The numbers you most often see compared are per capita numbers. When you are comparing a city like Cincinnati to a city like Cbus it is simply ridiculous.
Cbus' jurisdictional boundaries include the entire county it occupies. Therefore the more affluent neighborhoods are counted in and offset the numbers of the inner-city. Whereas in Cincinnati's case this does not happen. Cincinnati actually only makes up about half of Hamilton County and the per capita crime numbers are only factored in as such.
You can read whatever you want into statistics...the best way to truly gauge whether a place is safe or not is to go there and walk around yourself. When I see 8 year old girls outside blowing bubbles by themselves in Clifton (true story)...I don't think to myself that it is all that dangerous of a place. The same can be said when I see two young women walking lap dogs around by themselves Downtown...not exactly my imagery of a "crime ridden" place.

Ever consider a security system??? It amazes me that people will spend $1800+ on rent and $60-$100/mo on cable but then the monthly monitoring fee for Brinks is out of the question.
Sorry to hear about the break-in. But when you're young and upwardly mobile, I would think the suburbs are the last place you'd want to move. It's boring out there! Suburbs are for married couples, kids, chain bistros and minivans. At the very least go east to Mt Adams, Hyde Park or Oakley.

Hello to Everyone,
Thanks for the help, I apologize that I didn't post back here sooner. I have found a nice Condo out in Milford and am signing the lease today.
I want to living a place with a higher median income because I want to find clients not pretend that its safer. I know that a crime can happen to anyone, anywhere at anytime.
I did consider a security system but I was renting a house and the landlord would have to okay the installation. Plus the house is so old and unmaintained that putting an alarm in every room would have been necessary to really make a difference. In any case I am moving and thats settled, the new place even has an alarm already installed which I will be activating as soon as I move.
Thanks again for the help.

Funny when I lived in Clifton in nice apartments on Ohio Ave. The police had a suspect for the breaking into the car, riping the stereo equipment crime my then boyfriend(now hubby) had experienced. For the record, it was a white guy. I hate generalizations...grr!!!

If I had my choice, I would look into Montgomery, West Chester, or even Milford. Anywhere very close to "downtown" just doesnt seem very safe to me.

I agree.. more peolple typically equals more crime. Go where more folks know and watch out for their neighbors, you will be better off.
