Cincinnati is not even that dangerous of a city for its size, I never had one problem in Cincinnati and I have been to their worst parts. Dangerous cities are like Camden NJ or Gary IN. Cincinnati is a walk in the park compared to most cities its size... Cleveland and Detroit are way worse than Cincinnati.

But a comparison of similarly sized metro areas with core cities exceeding 100,000 people is going to offer a fairly accurate gauge of the crime problem or areas with crime issues in a city or metro. This this comparison is fair. And Indy is definitely WORSE than Cincy.

Yes, agreed. And, if Cincinnati crime statistics were for the metropolitan area, the rate would be much lower because it would incorporate a lot of low crime bedroom suburbs.

A couple of decades ago Cincy was one of the safest million plus metro markets in the country. It has worsened some but not by a great deal. It is still better than many million plus markets in the country. I used to study this stuff at the library and still remember some of what I studied back then and I clearly recall Cincy and Pittsburgh were two of the safest metro areas exceeding a million people in the country.

Crime is way down:

City: Homicides down 21.3 percent

Cincinnati's mayor, police chief and city manager Tuesday delivered a long-awaited math lesson: The most serious crimes – including homicides, robberies and shootings – are at a 10 year low.

They've fallen 40 percent since 2005, going from 3,951 that year to 2,352 in 2014.
From 2013 to 2014 violent crimes across the city decreased.

• Homicides decreased 15 percent; with 11 fewer victims.
• Shootings decreased 13.5 percent; with 59 fewer victims.
• Robberies decreased 15.5 percent; with 246 fewer victims.
• Burglaries decreased almost 12 percent; with 631 fewer break-ins.
• Motor vehicle thefts dropped 11 percent; with 130 fewer break-ins
