Cincinnati, ranked up there in the worst cities to live in?
Hi, I'm looking to relocate, and I've been searching and searching, and keep reading how incredible ghetto this city is. The crime is ridiculous, and that it's not safe to walk at night? what is the true story of this city, please feedback from people who have visited or who currently live there. Tell me where to stay away and why, and where is it safe? thanks

Yeah Cincinnati is a cesspool. I've been shot at on 5 separate occasions and robbed twice, all within the last week. We have riots every saturday complete with shootouts and looting!! Every resident carries an AK-47 either for protection, robberies or both!
Ok seriously, contrary to popular belief, Cincinnati is not a complete ghetto. Does Cincinnati have hoods. Yes, but it's no different here than any other mid-sized city. Obviously there are some areas where you might get hassled at night. Those areas are: OTR, Evanston, Walnut Hills, Bond Hill, Fairmount, Price Hill and Avondale. For the most part, if you are not looking for trouble it probably won't find you.
To be honest, judging from your post, Cincinnati proper is not the place for you. You might want to stick to the suburbs. The northern and northeastern suburbs seem to offer the most, but it really depends upon where you will be working and how long of a commute you are willing to deal with.

I can't think of any neighborhoods in Cincinnati I wouldn't be caught dead in, if you'll pardon the expression. Sure, there are some neighborhoods I may not walk through at night alone, but overall I'm comfortable in almost any neighborhood in the city (I guess working in Over-the-Rhine will do that to a girl).
Naturally there is crime in Cincinnati. There is crime in every city, and every suburb of every city. Why, I bet there's even crime in Indian Hill!
The true story of this city is that Cincinnati has more safe, vibrant neighborhoods than not. Just because some of those neighborhoods are working class or perhaps are not as well-kept as other neighborhoods does not mean they're unsafe or unsavory.
To characterize Cincinnati as "incredible ghetto" (whatever that means) is what's ridiculous.

This is actually laughable. I've lived all over the city and in other cities and Cincy is incredibly safe, neighborhood to neighborhood. Examine the crime stats a little bit and you'll see that the really bad stuff occurs almost uniformly in a few neighborhoods (easy to spot by the very low rents/home selling prices). There are by far many more safe, quiet, boring even, neighborhoods than not. Almost anything east/north of downtown, for instance. Lots of downtown itself is very safe, too, especially south of Central Pkwy. I am moving back there because my husband has a job offer at a law firm downtown and we're actively searching for a home in a city neighborhood for us and our one-year-old son. I don't have any hesitation whatsoever and I'm even a little paranoid about crime having lived in places like Chicago and outside Detroit.

I have to echo just about all the previous comments made thus far. It is extremely incorrect to label Cincinnati as "incredibly ghetto." It is actually quite safe and livable and has consistently been considered one of the most livable big cities in America for some time now.
I would be able to better make a recommendation if I knew your story. How old are you, what is your "scene", where will you be working, etc.
Give me some information and I'll (and others) will be able to give you a much better idea of a place that will be good for you.

I agree I've lived in Cincinnati area for over 40 years and have had no problems downtown. Probably the biggest complaint I hear about Cincinnati is about the public school system and what many consider to be "high" property taxes for what you get. North to Mason and West Chester, Northeast to Loveland, Miami Twp. East to Anderson are where many people have gone with a 20-30 minute commute downtown

There have only been TWO times I've ever had a problem downtown. Once was about 25 years ago when I was jumped in an alley outside a gay bar. The other time was a few months later when I was harassed on my way to Fountain Square. But I've been down there many times since then, and nothing else ever happened.

I lived in Cincinnati all my life (and that's quite a few years) and moved away about six years ago. I never had any problems in Cincinnati and I worked downtown most of those years and even in one of the most undesirable neighborhoods at one time. Never had any problems. I am finding it incredibly hard to believe that it has gone down that much in six years.

I think you are gonna find problems no matter where you go. I moved from Ohio to Florida and people talk about Florida being so awful and now I am in Washington State and they say this is awful here too. There is bad stuff everywhere you go, no matter where you go, its just a sign of the times.
