We are relocating to Cincinnati in August and are looking for a rental home in one of the better school districts. The home needs to be within 20 minutes' drive to the University of Cincinnati.

The 20 minute commute is doable, but not a fall off the log. When you say school districts there is CPS and then there is everything outside of CPS.

I would start off with trying to find a rental in Wyoming. Now this is almost a given. Cincinnati surrounds Wyoming, which has its own school district and is always highly ranked. My concern is how can Wyoming always get the top nod for either rental or purchase, as it is not that large. I would think the available housing is exhausted quickly.

My second recommendation is Pleasant Ridge, a neighborhood of Cincinnati. They have a relatively new
montessori school which seems to be well received. Well within 20 minutes of UC. Has a variety of architecture and home sizes, depending on what you want to spend.

^ Cincinnati does not surround Wyoming. Wyoming is across the northern border of Hartwell, Cincinnati's northernmost neighborhood.

"There is CPS and then there is everything outside of CPS." -- Not sure what you mean, since there's a lot of variation in suburban districts. But I'd agree that CPS offers much more variety of learning environment, variation in quality within district, and often requires more research & hoop-jumping to make work. Though for many families the potential hassle is offset by the unique qualities of a chosen school (Montessori, arts-focus, diverse student population, etc.).

I agree with your recommendations, though. Wyoming and Pleasant Ridge are both good choices, with good schools, and with rental properties in the borders. Though finding a suitable rental property in Wyoming might take some luck, it would be a great choice.
