My own family is quite biased about certain suburbs, so any additional opinions (favorable or not) are always welcome
Brill is our beloved curmudgeon. He is loaded with good advice, but sometimes comes out of left field, as we all do. Best of luck!

Stay clear of Summit Estates at Beechmont and 8 mile. That sub has really gone downhill in the past 20 years.

As kjbrill always suggests: if you live within a couple miles of your workplace, you won't regret it.

Keep in mind that living in Anderson, students can choose either high school. A vocal minority flooded the papers a few months ago to oppose the levy, as it mostly benefitted the northern part of the district. As a result, there was a lot of reporting on Anderson High's deficiencies. Both schools are strong, and I expect there will be a shift toward financially supporting a broader section of the schools with the next bond issue.

OP...

If you can locate a home in Turpin Hills within your parameters I highly recommend it. The commute downtown can be several choices from Columbia Parkway or cut over to Madison Rd or I-71. The schools should be a good fit. You would also be close to that new gym in Newtown.

I always found the wooded hills from which Turpin Hills gets its name to be very attractive.

I had no idea they were moving toward high school of choice, thank you Incamethe

Kjbrill, I agree, the Turpin Hills area has a lot to offer-- we plan to look into homes in other areas as well, but based on the feedback here and the housing stock we have seen online it is in the #1 spot right now

That was in effect back in the early 1980s.

There is a perception that Turpin is academically stronger and Anderson is athletically stronger. Turpin has slightly newer facilities and has higher rankings, whatever that's worth. Truth is, both schools offer the same AP classes, so I would say both schools have the same opportunities. The problem is self selection. Kids more likely to excel on the SAT/AP tests choose Turpin, which increases its ranking and exacerbates the disparity. I would actually like to see the district get rid of the choice system for that reason.
