What are some of the best areas for fall leaf viewing and drives in and around the area (say w/in 2/3 hrs).
When is the peak color typically?
This is the one thing I haven't gotten do to do much of in my first 2 autumns here and wanted to do get out this year to do that.

Follow US 52 (Kellogg Ave) east of the city along the river and you'll catch eyefuls of foliage in two states!
Or explore the interior of Adams County by driving out OH 125 (Beechmont Ave.) If you're a fan of "dining out" and/or a "rustic" overnight the Murphin Ridge Inn near West Union is very popular for both.
The Red River Gorge southeast of Lexington is a sure bet for scenery any time of year, lying within the Daniel Boone National Forest and featuring numerous overlooks. While the beauty of fall can be well enjoyed from a vehicle this area is best experienced by hiking. "Outdoor" type Cincinnatians love going there to trek, camp, and canoe, but all the comforts of home can be had at the Natural Bridge State Park lodge should you want to spend a weekend.
Brown County, Indiana!!! Brown County, Indiana!!! Brown County, Indiana!!!
Enough foliage wonks are out there to support Websites prognosticating when the colors will be peaking each year. So much of this has to do with how the overall weather conditions have been during winter, spring, and summer.

The Loveland Bike trail is a great place to view leaves from outside of a car. Fall is the best temperature for long bike rides in my opinion.

Just head to Nashville Indiana. In addition to some great fall follage in the nearby parks you can have a great time visiting the quaint shops in Nashville.
