Where to move in cincy... HELP!
I have been looking on-line at homes for sale in Hyde Park, Northside, and O'bryonville. Can some please compare these for me! Right now I live in the burbs. (chain heaven) I am looking for a area with locally owned restaurants/stores. Something that is somewhat walkable, has character, relaxed atmosphere, and is pretty safe. I'm I looking in the right areas? Should I be look somewhere else?
THANKS!

That's a great list to start from, given your specs. But I would also throw Clifton (gaslight), Oakley (aka Hyde Park jr.) and even Mt. Adams (although you'll find less of a business presence there than these other locales).

I couldn't afford any one of 'em!
If I were moving back, I'd probably go back to Madison Place, or buy in Westwood, or maybe Deer Park. Anyone looking to buy a nice house under $100,000 in a decent, working class neighborhood should look at Madison Place first.
But if money weren't an option, out of those three, I'd go for O'Bryonville. The streets are narrow and congested, but the neighborhood has a neat vibe to it. And I'd be close to the Running Spot.

They are all very walkable communities and offer unique shopping opportunities within their neighborhood business districts. I don't know if Northside is the best (depends on what your interests are)...it is definitely the most eclectic/diverse. But I would say that the other two are a little more clean cut/polished. Like I said...it all depends on what you like.

Check out Glendale, The Village of Glendale, Ohio. It's comparable to those you mention, only with more land for the price (although in the northern suburbs).

Madeira
We are a family of three with one on the way living in Madeira. We chose it because of good schools, lots of trees, reasonable housing prices, and a small walkable business district with local buisnesses. It has a local coffee shop called "coffee please", a local diner built in the old train stain called "The Choo Choo", a great local italian resturant called "Ferrari's", a local hardware store, local pharmacy, and a local toy store. There is also a starbucks, Kroger;s CVS, Walgreens and others, but it still has a "small town" feeling. The houses tend to be small - we have no closet space. But its been very safe and quiet, we have nice neighbors, and its convienient to 71 and the Kenwood mall. Indian Hill is right next door, which keeps traffic down. All in all we like it.

Greetings, BeesKnees,
I really think you should rule out Northside, if you want walkable, character and safe. If your highest priorities are low priced housing and eclectic, then maybe Northside would be ok, I had owned a home in Madeira and agree with Benthos, it is most convenient for all you seek (affordable homes are available, but small).
