I need HELP! Moving from MN
Here is the deal.... I took a sales job that is located at the I275/I75 connection. My sales route is in Northern KY. I will spend about 10-15 days a month in my northern KY area. I have read a lot of these threads, and i seem to get more and more information about living in OH and KY. Traffic here in teh Twin Cities around rush hour is crazy. It can take me 45min to an hour to go 10 miles!! See crazy! it is very expensive to live here and both OH and KY are a lot cheaper to live in.... I guess I'm looking for some advice about where to live,,,right now we live in the burbs and we moved here from 80 acres in central MI about three years ago. Are there any tax differences for working in OH and living in KY? i know they are big here fo rliving in WI and working in MN.
Looking for a three bed room home for rent for about 6 months.. to get situated.
PLease Help stop the confusion!!!!!LOL

I would also consider the Sharonville area. I can't help with the tax info, but the traffic isn't as bad as you describe even at it's worst.

First off, traffic in Cincinnati isn't all that horrible. It has its moments, but for the most part, it's worst on I-75, and the absolute worst within about 3 or 4 miles of downtown.
If you're going to be working in Kentucky most of the time, why not live in Kentucky? You'd easily be able to get some acreage south of I-275, say in Walton or Richwood, if you'd like to return to that again. If you want a more urban/suburban location, check out towns like Fort Mitchell, Lakeside Park, or Edgewood.
Good luck!

Traffic is only bad here on I-75 / I-71 during rush hour (inbound in the AM & vice versa in the PM). Traffic is almost always bad in both directions on I-75 between Hopple Street (UC) and the Cut in the Hill on the KY side.
Ways around this:
* Jump between I-71 & I-75 on the Norwood Lateral / Rt 562.
* Take I-71 to I-471 to get to the Kentucky side.
If you work in NKY 15 days/ week, you'd probably be best off renting in NKY. It's nicer, cheaper, and generally more reliably safe. Check out this DEALio in Park Hills.
3 Bedroom Home (broken link)
The differences I've noticed between NKY and the Ohio Side:
* Everything in NKY is nicer, cleaner, safer, and the service people at stores are way friendlier than on the Ohio side.
* NKY is more or less Cincinnati without the bad baggage.
* Sales taxes are lower in NKY, but grocery stores in NKY tax food items.
Where Ohio is better than Kentucky:
* SCHOOLS: Ohio public schools are either generally good to really good, or else they're just really bad. The best Kentucky public schools are about as good as Ohio's mediocre public schools. ...but some of the nicest residential neighborhoods are in NKY and private schools are really popular all over Cincinnati.
So yeah probably your best bet would be to just rent a place to start to get a feel for the city and where you want to buy a house. I wouldn't buy anything in this town for another year or so. Let the foreclosure fallout do it's thing and adjust the prices downward first.

Oh yeah if you have to live close to your office and if your office and your office is at 75/275 on the Ohio side, check out Wyoming or Glendale.
And ALWAYS check out craigslist: cincinnati, OH classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

I moved here from MN in June 2006. We lived in Waseca County in MN but hubby had lived in Edina, Bloomington, Brunsville prior to that. When I think of rush hour traffic being bad around here, he tells me it's NOTHING compared to The Cities!!!
Sharonville is a nice area, as is some parts of Western Hills. I'm not sure about the tax thing either, but I wanted to wish you all the luck in your move! It's a huge step, but I'm so glad we moved back here (oh forgot to mention that I am originally from oHIo)
