Suggestions about Cincinnati suburbs
Hi,
There is a good chance we will be moving to the Cinicinnati area (from TN) within the next few months. My husband will be working in Mason.
I have read lots of different advice on these threads and it's been very helpful-thanks to you all.
I'd like to stay fairly close to Mason but not necessarily live there. I have searched Sibcy Cline for homes in many of the recommended areas. We are looking for a home 15-80 yrs. old with at least half acre. Can anyone recommend a great neighborhood with homes like this? Quaint, original looking homes likes tutors or colonials would be my first choice, but I also would be open to an older ranch. Price range around $225K-325K?
Also is anyone familiar with the West Chester area? I have found a few homes in that town I like. There seems to be quite a few for sale on a street called "Wetherfield Dr." I was just wondering if this is a busy street of if there would be some other reason there is so much for sale on that street.
Thanks in advance for your time.

West Chester and Mason are cool.
West Chester and Mason are the same type of towns, very nice, with West Chester being 15-20 miles SW of Mason. West Chester is around I-75 about 10 miles north of Tri-County (area) where you can buy ANYTHING from Avon Cosmetics (main office/plant) to zebras!
CAUTION!! Shopping in Tri-County can easily take 2-3 days if you want to see everything.
I would not worry about the number of homes for sale on Wetherfield Dr. as the whole area north/northeast of I-275 is growing. Some day that general area will all be Daynati, or Cinnton.
Welcome to Ohia!

West Chester is not 15-20 miles from Mason. More like 6-8.

From eastern Mason, to western West Chester, it could take 20 minutes. However, western Mason and eastern West Chester meet at Butler Warren Rd. You follow me?
I would also say the bulk of West Chester is west of the bulk of Mason (not SW as CincyJim suggested). But the difference is not worth making a fuss over.

Lebanon is just North of Mason. Maybe 10 miles? Of course, its not 10 flat miles, as everything here is hills, and there's a River valley (the Little Miami) that runs through that area, making lots of interesting terrain. Lebanon is an old town (for the midwest), cemetery sign dates to 1799, the historic hotel dates to about 1815, it is super quaint, kind of small townish, with a farmer's market, lots of antique stores, and some cute little local restaurants. But, if modern (especially big box) shopping is what you want, you can hop on the highway (I-71) and be in Mason in about 15 minutes -- with all the shopping you could want on Field's Ertl road.
We are building in Lebanon (house to be ready this Spring) - prices out there range from smaller very affordable, to moderately luxurious, to very expensive - so you should be able to find a good range. Just keep in mind - it is a SMALL (tiny) town, so don't expect it not to be. Its amazing how close you can be here to a big suburban area and still be in a super rural part. (There are lots of COWS on the way in and out of Lebanon).
We thought it was cute though, and you can still get an 1 acre homesite out there - which is a little harder to do in the built up areas (Mason/West Chester). Lebanon schools also have a good reputation (based on school reporting)....
If you're going to be in the area for a fact finding trip - you should check out the whole area - see if you want to be in the hustle/bustle of serious suburbia, or if you want to be on the fringe in a more rural area.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. We like living just outside the city. We have an acre now in TN outside city limits but are less than 10 min. from major shopping. I like the quiet but still easy access to city.
My husband is going to Mason on Monday. We may go w/ him to check it out. It sounds nice.
