I remember keeping pace with the Chiquita discussions some time ago on this board.

Now they are leaving Charlotte after the company merged with Dublin-based Fyffes. Seems as if the Charlotte officials are quite upset over all the incentives they granted Chiquita to move HQs. It really isn't surprising this happened.

When you put out incentives to get a company to relocate, you better have constraints on the offer. If you don't and they just move again, SOBEIT, you are the ones holding up the losing end of the bargain. If you do nothing to protect your rear end, why should anyone else feel sorry for you? I think it is called survival of the fittest.

That is an everloving wrangling deal. So Chiquita is saying if they keep 70% of their top executives in Charlotte they are a 70% Charlotte company? Who believes this BS? Charlotte run them up the flag pole. You may have enticed them to come to Carolina, but they accepted. Don't let them escape without paying you for evry incentive you offered.

I'm pro-business, but Chiquita is a corporate-***** trying to save a buck. That's okay, but Charlotte knew, or should have known, who they were getting in bed with. It's like when the secretary marries her cheating boss, gets mad when he cheats on her 7 years later. Most adults just don't change who they are.

How does a company with very little profit come up with 500+ million to buy another company?

Also, when I first read the thread title, I thought, "Wow! Chiquita is going to move back to Dublin, OHIO! What jerks!"

I read where it was an All Stock deal. So I don't know whether it is too clear who bought who as much as a merger. I'l give you some of my stock and you give me some of yours so we become a single company. Interesting the announced headquarters of the new company will be Dublin, they must have held the stronger hand.
