I'm pretty sure they do...when I was there in Dec it was snowing and too cold outside but I'm pretty sure I saw they had one.

Had my first Rivertown Unit 6, which they label an "American Hefeweizen."

A traditional hefe is usually unfiltered, with some citrus, banana, and clove overtones. Rivertown's was unfiltered, but a lot of that sweetness was gone, replaced by a bit of a hop bite. I suppose that's the "American" part - US crafters love to add hops and more hops.

At first. I wasn't too pleased with it. It seemed to be a cloudy pilsner, but about 2/3rds through, it tasted better. I still wouldn't replace my usual hefe with it, though.

American brewers love experimenting w/ more and more hops...no doubt about it.

For those interested in 'Craft Beers' and it appears there are a lot that are. There's a new brewery starting up in Williamsburg Ohio.

It just seems to me that everytime you turn around a new brewery is being announced. When I look at the cost of the equipment for just a small brewery I begin to wonder whether they will begin slashing each other's throats.

at some point consolidation will happen again, although that could be 15 years or more down the road. everything is so profitable right now that the breweries are all on very good terms with each other.

for now, i am enjoying the great beer!

I believe craft beer only comprises around 8% of total U.S. beer consumption. There's a lot of room for further growth, but it depends on winning more converts from BMC.

I don't think the percentage of beer consumption is the consideration. The big boys pour out so much beer their unit volume production cost is rediculously low. The craft boys still have to pay for that expensive equipment. Then they need distribution costs. Just saying there is plenty of room for further growth to me underestimates the real situation.

I went to my local Kroger a couple of days ago and was surprised to see they had a large upright cooler cabinet full of rhinegeist canned beer. I believe there were multiple types involved, judging from the colors of the labels. I was in a hurry so I didn't stop to investigate or even make a purchase. But just seeing them there was notable.
