I can remember a part one of his most famous speaches thus far a few months ago, saying something like "I know guns are used for different things with people in rural Ohio than for gangs in Cleveland". I watched it.

i don't think you're a dummy for being involved in illegal activity. i feel that's an oversimplification. telling on yourself is another issue. read the article. there were 90 indictments handed out.

People in gangs make poor decisions just like anyone else who makes poor decisions.
These kids do this stuff to be a "part of something" ... they didn't get it at home, school, or with other peers. This offers them an official membership to be a member of something that views its power over citizens and even law enforcement. That sounds enticing to someone at these ages.
Society screws up when they look down on these folks and turn their back on them. We need to have better programs out there to help, not just throw someone in a jail cell and put an expiration date on the release. Most of these kids could care less about going to jail.

Cincy Rise I do agree with you but I also feel most people do know right from wrong and there are a lot of people out there that are willing to help those who want it.

I completely agree.
Unfortunately, the programs that are funded by the city, state or federal government, do not pay people enough to risk their well-being to save every child, who eventually falls through the cracks of a broken system.
Yes, we can say "start with the parents". But if the parents are not capable of controlling their children, who does it fall on? Usually an underpaid teacher. Or an underpaid social worker. Or no one. And these are the children who rebel against a society who did not take care of them, when they needed it.
I know this sounds like I am a bleeding heart, but if, as a society, we do not take care of our children, we are doomed to fail.
Children are our future. If we act like we don't care about "our" children, they will rebel against us, and we will breed serial killers & terrorists.
I know this may sound extreme, but "our" children are our "future", and ignoring their problems will only result in "our" destruction. No matter what we may believe in.

Programs funded by the state are not the agencies I am talking about, honestly many of them are a waste of time. Yes to schools, churches, neighbors, business owners...they all have a responsiblity in the communities and to the people who live in them. I know I am lucky to have a good kid, but I put the time in as his parent and I TALK to him to make sure that is the way he grew up. Too many have become dependent on agencies to help them out instead of helping themselves-making a problem someone elses fault instead of carrying the weight of the burden themselves. People have to want to change their lives before it can actually happen. I am sorry but I am a firm believer that people can help themselves if they really want to.
