Cincinnati Hospitals
Hello everyone. I will be moving to the Northern Kentucky area the first week of January. I will be attending Northern Kentucky University for the Respiratory Care program. For one of the admission requirements for the program, I have to observe a therapist in a hospital. I am not familiar with Cincinnati at all and I need help with deciding which hospital would be best to observe at. By reading the posts on the board, I understand that there are some neighborhoods in Cincinnati that are deemed "scary" such as some areas of Clifton and Over-The-Rhine. I would like to observe at a hospital that is in a decent area of Cincinnati and not in a "scary" neighborhood or a place to avoid. If you would, could you tell me about the following Cincinnati hospitals and the neighborhood they are in? Do you recommend anyone of these hospitals over the other? Thank you
Bethesda North
Children's Hospital Medical Center
Christ Hospital
Deaconess Hospital
Good Samaritan
Jewish Hospital
Mercy Hospitals Anderson/Mt. Airy/Western Hills
University Hospital

Does it have to be in Cincinnati? There are three hospitals in Northern Kentucky, including St. Luke West (Florence), St. Luke East (Ft. Thomas - this is the closest to the NKU campus), and St. Elizabeth (Edgewood - a highly rated hospital). Most of the hospitals on your list lie on or adjacent to the campus of the University of Cincinnati and have their own parking facilities, so I would say they're all probably safe. Deaconess, Jewish, and Mercy hospitals are all bit distant from NKU.

I wouldn't think that you would have problems at any of those hospitals. Most hospitals have their own security and the police is only a call away.

B North (Montgomery), Jewish (Kenwood) and Mercy Anderson are in the 'burbs; the others, except Mercy Mt. Airy, are all around the same area.
There's nothing unsafe about any of the hospitals or their neighborhoods.

You could live in the Clifton neighborhood near Cincinnati Children's. It's where my wife and I lived for 3 years during my residency. Safe, nice, and close to work.

Hi...
I am a Respiratory Therapist from Cincinnati. What do you want to see? Do you want to see kids? Do you want to see more trauma? Or do you want the everyday work of a therapist?
Obviously Childrens for the kids. UC for trauma. Mercy West. Hills or Mercy Mt. Airy for the standard everyday care.
ETA I don't think you are at risk going to any of these hospitals. They are in decent areas. They all have parking facilities... You will probably have to go to all of them at some point in your training anyway...
