It's inside 275, but Mariemont would be another option. It's quiet, there are parks with walking trails, and traffic in the residential areas is low, so your life isn't on the line when you get on your bike. The square is within walking distance of the entire village. There's a mix of apartments, townhouses, and detached homes. Kind of on the expensive side, but it's a lovely town.

Yeah, I would recommend mariemont over almost anything you are going to find outside of 275

I lived in Cinti for 14 years
We lived in Mariemont and my son went to school there from the time he was in 5th grade until he graduated from high school. Once he graduated from high school we got out of there.
Once he started college, we moved to the Gaslight area by Ludlow Avenue which is right near the the Univ. of Cinti and Burnett Woods. If I were to recommend moving back to anywhere in Cincinnati, it would be this area.
It is beautiful. You can get out and walk to everything you need and then some. It is eclectic, with a mix of people from all over the country, unlike Mariemont which basically all "one kind" of people. You have everything you need and do not need a car. There are buses to the Tr-County Mall right on Ludlow Avenue as well as buses into downtown. The store and shops are great. And because of the University you have a great mix of young and old, singles and families and culutures.
We were one of 3 Jewish families living in Mariemont and they showed no respect for anyone who was not a Christian.
If you really are thinking about coming back to Cinti, the Gaslight area will make you feel like you belong. It's kind of like living in the Village in NY, without as much of a crowd. You will love it.
If I would ever move back to Cinti, it would be the only place I would consider.

This kills me. Aside from the fact that this thread is from back in January, so I doubt the OP is even still reading (no offense to you, JudyBee771), I'm quite amused that the OP specifically stated OUTSIDE the I-275 loop...in NORTH or NORTHEAST area....and all you people can do is recommend places considerably inside that loop. I mean, come on...Mariemont? This just proves to me that it KILLS you guys to even think about recommending West Chester or Mason...which, obviously, would be the most ideal locations according to what the OP has requested. Lots of EVERYTHING the OP would want is out here...walking/biking paths, parks, safe areas, plenty of shopping....and not ONE of you could bring yourselves to mention us up here.

What'd you mean by "you people?"
