Monroe is fine, wouldn't buy there though. Way too much instability and pollution with AK, and a lot of corrupt local politics in that town. But it is growing at a breakneck pace, and the schools are decent. IMO the schools there are the best within a 10-mile radius excluding Mason.

But I don't have enough info to help out any more. If you answered the below questions that would help out a lot.

What's the rough budget?
What's the required bed/baths?
What kind of stuff does your son and his family like to do?
Any particular community amenities your son has now that he would like to replicate in Cincinnati?
Anything he'd like to avoid?
What style of neighborhood would he like to live in?
Is walkability or lots of land important?
Where will your son be working (approximate location is fine, for instance a street or neighborhood)?
What's the max commute?
How important are local schools?

Monroe is really far from Cincinnati's Urban Core...I wouldn't want to live way out there.

I personally wouldn't choose Monroe, however the 29 whole miles between it and the Ohio River would not be the reason why.

I think most people in Monroe work in the northern suburbs. Not a good choice for commuting downtown, but workable for suburban jobs.

Yes, if you will be working in Cincinnati Urban Core, why would you even consider Monroe? To me places like Monroe are convenient from GE Evendale up through Springdale, and on through Hamilton and Middletown. These are thee places you should be working.

The OP didn't suggest anything about the urban core, but was very general with "Cincinnati Area". Assuming the OP comes back, they can be more specific about where their family members will be working, etc..

Why the heck was I thinking Monroe? Now I'm confused!

To OP: I think we can make recommendations for family friendly areas based around wherever is the other end of the commute.

hahahaha!! I know, so easy to get mixed up sometimes on these threads.

To sum:
OP asked specifically about Monroe (is it nice?) but only vaguely suggested their family member would be moving to the "Cincinnati Area".

Northern burb poster gave some specific info on Monroe.

Urban booster dogged on Monroe for not being near "urban core".

it was pointed out that OP never mentioned Urban Core

and Here we are!

Perhaps if OP ever returns, they will give further info as to their family member's preferences / work industry / etc..

Until then, we can all be content knowing (categorically!) that Monroe =/= urban core!
