The place is exactly right off reading road. Its lie than a half mile from the mansions of Amberley Village. The fiance loves the place because previous owner builty a dance studio in the basement thats easily converted for his home gym. The home is perfect.. I'm just worried about the neighborhood, schools, and racial divide. I'm pretty sure we'd be the only white couple there. Not that theres anything wrong with that... just curious.
how large is the area? large enough for a clean divide from good to bad?

All in all, I'd avoid Roselawn because you could probably get the same type of house in a much more stable community.

Can I assume, then, that the closer you get to Amberley, the safer it is? We're looking at the same area, as it seems to be one of the most affordable Jewish communities in the country, but I don't want to have to start out by erecting security fences, etc..

im from bond hill
cincinnati may be beautiful, but it aint safe at all
roselawn is not safe
its a quietly kept area with neat tudors and apts so the neighborhood keeps itself. doesn't subtract crime though
try paddock hills. mixed w many cultures/races. pleasant ridge.

I would recommend moving to West Chester or the Forest Park area.

Over-the-Rhine is a neighborhood on the rebound. It has historically been the cities most dangerous neighborhood, but has since recovered and that is no longer the case.
Currently District 1 (which covers both OTR & Downtown) has the lowest crime rate of any police district in the city. If you look at something in the Gateway Quarter or on Main Street, you'll feel just find.
But there are pockets of safe/desirable areas in OTR, just as there are places you don't want to be. The best advice I could give you is to go check out the place in person before you sign a lease. To each their own.

where in cinci is more dangerous than otr? they had a cop on every corner in 07 and i dont trust the stats anyway...check out the assaults citywide year by year. no matter how many robberies or shootings, cincinnati flirts with 1000. not buyin it in a city with a top ten murder/robbery/rape rate.

Just want to clear something up here. Roselawn is not a Jewish community anymore. Most have left for the suburbs, and the Jewish Community Center moved away several years ago.
Also, I really don't think it matters where in Roselawn you move to, whether it would be near Bond Hill or north near Reading. Neither location is safe in my opinion.

Is this mostly confined to different parts of the city or is it prevalent throughout?
Also, I read that Over the Rhine has been getting some renovations and is a good place to live for young professionals. I'm 23 and I'd like to live in a pretty safe neighborhood with a lot to do. I understand regardless I'm going to have to lock my car whenever, but I'd like to live somewhere that I feel safe walking around at night. Is this a good neighborhood, if not could you please suggest some nice places to live for someone my age.
Thanks!

If you want a safe, urban neighborhood near downtown Cinci, try Newport or Covington across the river in Kentucky. Otherwise buy a bulletproof vest

This just isn't the case. I live downtown and am right next door to OTR. The area is becoming gentrified and more and more projects are being rehabbed. In district 1 (OTR & CBD)Part 1 crime dropped tremendously.
The housing market in the downtown area is one of the healthiest.
I lived in Newport for a little less than a year. The area is very white (about 93% white, less diverse than Blue Ash). Newport is the white version of OTR as well. If you want safety and downtown, choose the CBD. Covington is also almost all white, not quite as bad as Newport though.
Otherwise, Prospect Hill, Mt. Adams, East Walnut Hills, or the Gaslight in Clifton is amazing!
If you venture to OTR or downtown you'll see women (white) between 90-130 lbs. walking around that live in nearby condos/lofts ... I'm not trying to insinuate anything about censusdate .... but ....

It's true that OTR is being regentrified right now, but I wouldn't live there, especially if I was looking for some place safe. Historically it has had alot of problems and many of those still exist. Actually, Clifton (the college part of town) just up the hill from OTR is much better, although even that has gotten weird lately, and many think it is because the drug dealers, etc. have been pushed from OTR and that's the closest place to go. In other words, there are definetely alot of kinks being worked out in that whole area. I love going to OTR to visit..there's a few bars and coffehouses nearby that are nice...but if my concern was safety..it wouldn't be on my list. I'd consider Clifton instead. There are alot of interesting, eclectic, safer parts of town than OTR...take Norwood, Clifton, Northside, Hyde Park, Mt. Adams, etc for example.
