Dumb question, but what's the difference between crime and safety?

Well, if I had to guess, I'd say that not all crimes involve violence that affects the safety of citizens. For example, breaking into a car to steal a stereo (or the car itself) is a crime, but it doesn't necessarily pose a direct threat of bodily harm to others.

On the other hand, safety itself may not necessarily be an issue that involves crime. There could be a street that has dangerous dogs such as Rottweilers or Dobermans, etc....but it's not a crime to own those dogs. And even if the dogs get loose and attack pedestrians, it's not a "crime" per se, even though the owner could be held liable.

You could also have general safety issues involving open access to property that poses a danger to people, such as exposure to steps that are in disrepair, or perhaps factories that pose health risks to the neighborhood due to the nature of how they store their products/supplies, or the way they operate.

So yeah, they are kinda two different things. Not all crimes involve a threat to public safety, and not all safety issues are related to crime.

Is that community center still there across the way??
If you live in the area you should drive by and take a look at the Center, it is completely torn apart due to construction which began in September and is scheduled to be complete this coming May. It will have a new Kitchen area, two large new rooms and a workout area with fitness equipment...can you believe it? Hartwell is getting a place to work out! ANd the school, well the school is getting a remodel too. Its all pretty exciting! Maybe I will try to get up there and take a few pics and put them on here for anyone interested.

Some pics would be great!! I move away in 1990 and can't remember if I've been back since. Many fantastic summers at the community center in the wonderful pool and playing baseball in the field.

You can log onto www.hartwellohio.com and see some pics of the plans...I will take some new photos though. I did add a few I took in early Sept just as the construction was getting ready to begin...they are on my personal albums page along with a few other pics of the neighborhood I found on my computer that I took earlier this year. Promise I will try to get out and get some more pics!

Wow the community center looks like it's going to be great!! Good times over there. I just checked out google maps and I remember that there was a car dealership on Galbraith and Vine, I think it was called Dick Sweeny but I think we used to call it Dick Weenie but anyways looks like theres a Walgreens now. There was a chili place north on Vine from the school, is that still there? I also remember an IGA and UDF. Great memories maybe i'll move back someday.

There is a Walgreens on the corner of Vine& Galbraith now and next to it on Galbraith is a Gold Start too and the chili place you are thinking of on Vine by the school probably Empress which is still there. The IGA is a Longs Furniture and the UDF has been gone for a while out of the shopping plaza. I just love it here and I love to hear about the history and past times of the neighborhood.

Within city limits:

Mt Adams
Hyde Park
Mt Lookout
Central Business District
Clifton
Oakley

For what it's worth, outside city limits I think you have to include Mariemont and Wyoming. I'm still relatively new to the area, so I'm still changing my "list" all the time. This is certainly a very diverse city.

Default Neighborhoods

I grew up in Norwood, on Park Avenue. I don't know if it's still a beautiful street or not, as I left in 1969 to find my place in the world.

I had a trip to Cincy the last week in July; the first visit to the city proper in a number of years (I still have relatives in Goshen, Lebanon, etc.). When I visited my relatives, I am wisked straight to those locations and those folks NEVER go into the city!

This time I was by myself and drove around for three days looking at property, etc. It sure has, on the whole, changed. I was surprised at the LACK of renovation going on in Walnut Hills, very near the park. My mother's childhood home is still there on Park Avenue, a few houses up from the park bridge bend where the art deco apts are. I always wanted to live in one of those.

Before I left Cincy, I lived in an Oakley duplex, two blocks outbound from Buskins at Madison and Edwards. I was surprised how nice the Oakley/Hyde Park areas have remained. The part of Madisonville on the Mariemont lines is very nice -- my mother still owns a house on Grace Avenue, but it's now a rental -- tenant has been there for 15 years. I think that little section is called Madison Place.

I have no experience with other parts of the city, except as a visitor.

I've alway been an "east" girl and if I retire back to Cincy, that's where I'll be looking. Terrace Park and Indian Hill are nice too.

I have the skyline as the wallpaper on my computer. I love my hometown!!!
