I've asked similar questions in the Utah and Rhode Island forums, and now I shall do the same in the Cincinnati forum.

I'm considering moving out of my current state (Georgia) sometime next year, and so far I've been strongly leaning towards Salt Lake City. However, Cincinnati is also on my radar for various reasons. One of them being that I have friends (read: a network) there that I can rely on.

To give some context about me, I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and experience in retail, sales, inventory, office skills, and revenue management. I'm looking for jobs in sales (much, much preferably not in retail), hospitality, data processing, accounting, administration, Human Resources, and similar fields. My friends live in a little town called Peebles (about an hour outside of Cincinnati) and I'm more than willing to commute to work for a while. I'm 24 years old with no real interest in nightlife, and am a religious Hindu; so I suppose being involved in the community would be nice.

With that being said:

1.) Are white collar or blue collar jobs more prevalent in Cincinnati?

2.) How many entry level opportunities are there?

3.) Are there any reputable temp agencies in Cincinnati?

4.) What's the average rent for a studio apartment? How about average rent when living with a roommate?

5.) Clubs not withstanding, what's the LGBT community like in Cincinnati?

I'll take a stab at this:

1) My impression is more white collar jobs but there are a lot of warehouse facilities around the airport and in the northern burbs. Cincy is home to 9 Fortune 500 Companies including Macy's, Kroger and Procter & Gamble. GE also has a large and growing workforce here. Several consumer and marketing firms have offices here because of those Fortune 500 companies including companies like DunnHumby and Nielson.

2) This I'm not sure on this, other than checking out websites like Indeed.com, Craigslist, CareerBuilder and Monster.

3) Adecco, Belcan and Office Team are pretty big.

4) This really depends on where you live. Anywhere from $400 to $1000 for a studio. 2 Bedrooms $600 to $2000 but again, you'd have to mention specific areas for a better idea.

5) Cincinnati was just awarded a perfect score from Human Rights Watch for LGBT inclusiveness. There are a handful of bars and clubs that I know of. These links should help: Greater Cincinnati Chapter | GLSEN and Cincinnati Pride | Celebrate Pride

Also, Peebles would be a long drive if you work anywhere within the I-275 loop.

Edit: There are two (I think) Hindu Temples here. One in Eastgate and one in Mason.

I will be more specific about Peebles, it is in what we call East Jesus, or Adams County, certainly not somewhere you want to commute to. Nice place to have friends to go visit, but a daily commute forget it. You'd wear out a vehicle in nothing flat and spend a fortune on maintenance.

Spend your time on a job source. When you have a handle on that it will be simple to determine a place to live.

Yeah, Peebles is a long drive, but one of my friends has connections in Cincinnati, so I'm hoping that would be of some help in some way.

As for careers? I've actually considered Pharmacy Technician. Even though I don't live in Ohio at the moment, is it possible to go on ahead and register with a state board and take the certification exam/PTCB while out of state?

Does someone have a response to this? I sure hope so, sounds like this young person is looking for a reason to move to Cincinnati.

That obvious, eh?

Yeah, Cincinnati is a place I'm greatly interested in, but I do have other plans in mind. Doesn't hurt to have multiple plans.

I would also check out the downtown casino for employment opportunites, as well as all of the colleges, universities and hospitals in the greater Cinci area

If your friend(s) work in Peebles and have connections to Cincinnati, I'd be willing to bet they have strong connections to GE.

Have you ever done purchasing? GE has a massive need for good purchasing agents in Evendale.
