United States cities by crime rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and before you guys hop on the population difference, the only reason the feds started reporting cincinnati at 363,000 is because of a challenge that happened after the stats came out. nobody knew for sure 60,000 people were floating around cincinnati the feds didn't know about so the stat rankings remain the same in principal. any of the cities could have challenged as well and possibly gained residents, hence lowering their per capita so its a static point.
I challenge someone to come up with the population diversity percentages for these 10 fine cities and I think we'll find that some things just aren't a coincidence.

For the record, I lived in Cincinnati for 3 years and a crime was never perpetrated on me.

Do I read it correctly that Cincinnati is third highest in the nation of incidences of forcible rape per 100,000 population?

I find it interesting that if you click on the infoplease.com link and click on most liveable cities link cities pop. 300,000 plus Cincy is ranked second.

Cincinnati has improved crimewise, so thats a good thing. It is now the 28th most dangerous city, it was up to the 18th in 2006 and 16th in 2007. I have posted this several other places. It shows Ohio cities and Metros and ranks them compared to other Ohio cities and metros. Cincinnatis metro is also below the national average for crime. The number is what they are ranked nationwide:

Ohio Cities: (most-least dangerous), score-(higher=worse, in parenthesis means negative/below national average, not in parenthesis is above national average):
11. Cleveland-255.80
15. Youngstown-234.56
26. Dayton-171.29
28. Cincinnati-168.22
43. Columbus-138.05
46. Canton-133.36
64. Toledo-107.73
79. Akron-98.22
300. Parma-(32.75)

Ohio Metros: (most-least dangerous), score-(higher=worse, in parenthesis means negative/below national average, not in parenthesis is above national average):
67. Columbus-29.77
100. Cleveland-13.59
110. Toledo-10.33
132. Springfield-4.87
140. Lima-0.85
162. Cincinnati-(6.70)
167. Dayton-(8.65)
171. Mansfield-(9.92)
174. Akron-(10.50)
286. Sandusky-(43.90)
301. Marietta-(48.91)
317. Wheeling-(56.24)
323. Steubenville-(60.45)

For a smaller big city, I actually like Cincinnati on the whole. I was never a victim of a crime while I lived there, so I have no reason to downtalk the city from a safety standpoint. I visited Cinci for a few nights back in 2003, and I found downtown to be incredibliy dark, as in the street lights were barely lit. Given that the most recent race riots had taken place only 2 years before, I felt pretty unsafe walking downtown back then. In 2006, I accepted a job in Cincinnati and I was very pleased to see that downtown had really improved, was well-lit, and people were everywhere out and about socializing, eating out, etc. All cities have their problems, Cincinnati being no exception, but if you excercise common sense and stay aware of your surroundings, I think Cincinnati is a pretty safe place to live and work overall.

Default Moving to Cincinnati in June

Hello!

My family and I will be relocating to Cincinnati from San Francisco, CA this June due to a job promotion. We're hoping to hear some positive things about the city and it's surrounding areas. As in: Safest areas to live within the city and outside the city. Places of interest. Culture. etc. With two very young children, safety is our biggest concern, which is what brings me to this particular thread. Therefore, any tips or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Side note: Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area we're quite used to cultural diversity and definitely not afraid of it. We really want to learn as much about Cincinnati as we can before the big move so that we're better aware of our new home.

Thanks.

Why there? Any particular reason? It seems interesting due to the history surrounding the area.
