Well considering you have no clue what you are talking about with OTR, it seems interesting to say the least. I mean its the things you are saying. I am looking to move into the area, I have realtors telling me about, I have done piles of research, and I have talked to locals. Its not a matter of "I have been there" or "We would always".
Its, "I am looking into the area." Recent stuff.
Like I have said, OTR is one of America's best comeback stories for a city neighborhood.

Have you been to OTR lately? It really is an awesome area. The renovations, construction, restaurants, and more are really exciting and awesome to see. If you haven't been there in awhile, I would suggest checking it out. Quite a good story to be told.

Hi I'm originally from Lansing,Mi and raised my 2 sons there and also have family who still reside there. One of my older brothers who still resides in Lansing and also lived in a very bad neighborhood which was infested with drug dealers and gangs. And I've also seen some negative parts of Detroit as well and had an Aunt and Uncle who lived there.
I've only lived in Cincinnati since 2006 and when I hear negative news about Cincinnati being a dangerous place in which to live I know that no city or state has a patent on being dangerous. They all have their problems.

Exactly, but most posters, refuse to see this. No place is perfect. They must argue and argue that this is the worst place to live, without even traveling and seeing what else is out there. And major cities are going to have their problems. Their big, with a lot of different people and things going on.
Thank you for your post. I hope you are enjoying the Cincinnati area, it is a great place to live.

I love Cinci, and I walk through OTR from where I park to get to work and no one has ever bothered me. A lot of people do say 'Hello' to me. But there are areas that only an idiot would venture into on foot at night.

It's not the crime in Cincinnati that disturbs me the most, it's the culture. The roots of racism run really deep down there. Just flip on the radio to 700 AM and listen to Bill Cunningham for a while. He's toned it down a bit compared to the old days, but the fact that a neo-Nazi like Bill can command a radio audience city really says something. If you look at the history of the area, it's no big surprise. Cincinnati and SE Indiana were the focus of a lot of KKK and similar activity back in the early 20th century. Those groups only have a limited following in 2009, but the underlying thinking runs right up to the present day in many locales. If you are looking for a place with diversity, Cincinnati ain't it. I'm not just talking about the demographics, I'm talking about the attitude. Acceptance and tolerance are not easily found. There is a lot of cultural bigotry too, it's hard to miss. Just stroll about Hyde Park for a while, you will get a whiff. Of course if you are white nuevo-rich, that might just be the ticket for you.

This is just the kind of misleading BS that propagates the us vs. them conflict. First, when people are rich in Hyde Park, they are not "nuevo-rich." They actually are rich. And, they have been rich for a long time. And, they will be rich for a long time from now. But the truth is that its pretty unlikely that you will encounter any of those "rich folk" in a stroll around Hyde Park unless your stroll is in the parking lot of the CCC. Rather, you will encounter, ordinary middle class, mostly white, socially liberal folks who like a safe, hip, happening "city-near" living experience without a touch of racism or homophobia. Come to Hyde Park and see for yourself. Get in line at Graeter's or sit in the Square and see if you can detect secret hatreds harbored by the happy diverse group you will see there. You won't.
Sadly, it is true that there are poor white folks in the area who harbor racial prejudice as a legacy of generations gone by that has not been bleached out by educational or cultural experiences such as college, travel, corporate culture or otherwise. And, probably a lot of them listen to Bill Cunningham on WLW. But they don't live in Hyde Park.
