If you look at the history of the area, it's no big surprise. Cincinnati and SE Indiana were the focus of a lot of KKK and similar activity back in the early 20th century. Those groups only have a limited following in 2009, but the underlying thinking runs right up to the present day in many locales. If you are looking for a place with diversity, Cincinnati ain't it. I'm not just talking about the demographics, I'm talking about the attitude. Acceptance and tolerance are not easily found. There is a lot of cultural bigotry too, it's hard to miss. Just stroll about Hyde Park for a while, you will get a whiff. Of course if you are white nuevo-rich, that might just be the ticket for you.

You just proved yourself wrong.
It's not a Cincinnati issue, it's a U.S. one ... if it weren't, 700WLW wouldn't have been on satellite radio (I mean, isn't the local dial strong enough?).

BTW, I don't think Philly is a "racist city," ... even though one of the most shocking events I have seen as of recent was pretty tough to swallow RE: the swimming pool incident (if you can call it that).

What a bunch of BS! There are just as many racists and homophobes in Hyde Park as anywhere else in Cincinnati or America for that matter. The only difference is in Hyde Park property costs are overinflated and city taxes are thru the roof. Hyde Park is just the "SEE AND BE SEEN" crowd.

The fact is... Cincinnati is a safe place to live and work if you do not buy or sell drugs here. Your chances of getting shot, robbed etc. change if you are actually from Bond Hill, Walnut Hills, Avondale. People who grow up in these neighborhoods will tell you how they are robbed often by people they know, and how MANY MANY crimes go unreported every day.
You are, like most people who talk about crime in Cincinnati, getting things mixed up. If you get your family and walk from Gilbert and McMillan north on Gilbert to MLK, turn left and walk west on MLK to Reading RD and then head north on Reading Rd to the Corner of California and Reading... you will have just survived a stroll through some of the most dangerous (statistically) areas of the city. I challenge that you will survive and you will not be a victim of crime. Now... walk that way daily for the next month and someone will notice you... and now your chances of becoming a victim increase. Still... if you mind your business, don't buy or sell drugs and just stroll on through... you are likely not at risk.

We can all post links on a thread about bad things happening, but how much do you know about the story being told or how unfortunate the decisions someone may make are going to reflect on the preception of a community. Go ahead and bash the area or the City as a whole, because of a story that runs in the news for less than 2 minutes. Or you can pull up the clerk of courts web site and look up someone's criminal history...like many have said here and will continue to say, "If you are not buying or selling drugs in this City, you dont have much to worry about." Now I havent looked at your profile to see where you live, but if you live in this City, be a part of making things better. If dont live in the City, I really dont care what you think about a City I love to live in.

How about this story in the Enquirer....this is a good one....take the time to read the comment from an OTR resident, his/her comment seems to be getting a lot of support.
