I planned a 7 day road trip from our home in Pittsburgh PA to Nashville TN via Cincinnati OH and Louisville KY. I booked the hotels and scheduled the black cultural tours of each city. I also planned our dining for each destination. I have yet to plan our late night bar hoping activities. We enjoy good music and inexpensive drinks. We do enjoy tame " hood bars " for the over 30 crowd. We are looking for live music coupled with 80/90s hip hop and R&B. WE are staying in downtown Cincinatti but do not mind venturing into the hood for a good time. Please help!

Hi! You didn't mention when you're planning to visit but the Cincinnati Jazz Festival in July is usually a great event for R&B/Hip Hop lovers. Babyface is one of the featured acts this year.

Sorry. We will not make the Jazz festival. I have attended befor. This is mostly a black cultural tour of each city. Our travel dates will be June 11, 2016 - June 18, 2016. We will spend the first two days in Cincinnati. (Saturday and Sunday).

Mixx Ultra Lounge is the top place that comes to mind for me. Corner of 12th and Main.

While you're in town, check out the freedom center! I'd also see the American Sign Museum too just for the sheer uniqueness factor.

Mt. Adams might be more your scene, but OTR without a doubt is worth checking out.

Thank you. The Freedom Center is our main focus. Some of our dining options are in Over The Rhine. I believe the Findlay Market is located in OTR as well? I look up Mt Adams attractions.

Makes sense. And yes, Findlay Market is in OTR, the northern part of it (the rough boundary is Liberty St.). To the north of Liberty is still on the cusp of revitalization, and south of it is basically fully revitalized.

As for Mt. Adams, I was thinking the views and the bar scene might be better. OTR is still a bit early 20's/hipster scene, while Mt. Adams is a bit more mature and put together. I could be wrong, I'll let others correct me, but for mid-30's professionals I'm thinking you'd rather be getting bottle service with a nice view at a place like The Rookwood than raging at a place like Japs.

Cincinnati isn't much of a "Live" music city but, 30+ hood spots. We got 'em. These are the types of spots that you can be at the bar standing next to a drug dealer and a municipal court judge, at the same time. Mixx has been mentioned but Cincinnati is friendly in that if you ask a random person on the street, who fits the demographic that you're looking for- they will give you all the information you need to make an informed choice. Have fun.
