Dont forget about income tax. I think it's 2.25% within city limits.
Im not sure about the kentucky side but I sincerely doubt it's that much

But state income tax in KY is about 2% higher than Ohio....so wouldn't it be a wash?

It might be.

My best advice is to contact our forum's resident lawyer/tax junkie, hensleya1, and ask. He knows all the ins and outs on taxes in the area and would give the best possible quick advice regarding this vs. that municipality tax rates.

To earlier points, I would do a visit to the area before committing to an apartment if possible. It's a far shorter walk to The Banks (and even Fountain Square) from Newport than OTR or Mt. Adams. Also, Uber does an excellent job around here, the cost of a drink will get you and whatever ladies you find back to Newport from Mt. Adams, Hyde Park, OTR, or wherever you choose to go out.

But if you are set on living in the center of the action, and the more suburban/rural crowd that frequents the bars at Newport on the Levee, the Banks, and Hofbrauhaus Newport doesn't suffice, then I would only look at OTR and Mt. Adams, nowhere else.

Good luck!
