Captain Catfish...I am not saying people cant say what they want... People come here to hear everyones information. And I know the neighborhoods get a bad rap but I still think there are more good things about this City than bad. And if City administration is to blame then it is up to the citizens of this City to do what we can to fix it. That is why I speak up for Cincinnati, because I believe in it.
Hillside, I dont want you to feel like I am attacking you at all. I just want you to know there are people who care and want the City to be great. But we all know we dont live in a perfect world and it would take a lot of work to make it that way. I just want people to step up and be proud of their neighborhoods, not wait for the City to solve all their problems and do their part in making this City what it can be. Crime is a problem but I guess since I have not been faced with any problems when visiting the mentioned high crime areas, I chose to disagree with those posts. But like I said before, I hope we can agree to disagree. |

Further, as to crime, I think this much is objectively true: crime in Cincinnati is above average for cities nationwide, and has been higher in the 00s that it was in the 90s. Nonetheless, Cincy is not among those cities that have the worst crime rates in the nation. Also, the crime rate has indeed fallen in the past couple years, especially downtown. There is, of course, room for debate in the details, but I really don't think one can fairly disagree with this as an overall assessment. So, the point is: if you think people exaggerate the crime in Cincy...fine, say so...but, do it generally, not by going after particular posters or by responding to every single negative statement. It's not right to try to shut down everyone that doesn't see the city in a 100% positive light, and, while it's good to have a positive outlook, there's nothing good about just sweeping problems under the rug. |

UGH! I think I am talking to myself.
I feel like people exaggerate the crime in Cincy. And I dont shut down posters who dont view the City in a 100% positive light..I speak as someone who lives in the City and disagrees with statements like a shooting in the Kroger parking lot or Carthage not being safe. I also think some of the other neighborhoods crime posted here are exaggerated as well. Is that better? |

Nobody is trying to tell anyone what they can and can't say or necessarily single anyone in particular out. However, there are a few people on this forum (and, to be fair, a number of others on city-data), that just will not hear anything negative about their city and paint, what is in my view, an unrealistic picture of the area. Further, they often say things like those with different opinion are just trying to "bash" or "bring down" or that they should just keep quiet if they don't have anything positive to say, or - best of all - "If you don't like it, then MOVE!"/"Good thing you left" (note I am quoting anyone in particular here...just things I've read more than once in these forums). Sometimes it makes me wonder whether some people have an ulterior motive - such as trying to sell real estate or working for the chamber of commerce or similar. But, I don't have any way of knowing if that's true, so I don't point any fingers. This is not a "hometown cheerleader" site - people come to city-data to learn more about places they don't know about and to share what they do know, both good and bad. So, it's just that a few people have asked some of the more, shall we say, enthusiastic of the city boosters to tone it down a bit on the trying to "refute" everyone. Take it for what it's worth... |

This goes both ways people ... Hartwell Girl (or what you perceive Hartwell Girl as doing) is the same as Hillside, or JCL01 ... except it being the glass is half full. You guys are approaching the debate as it being half empty.
I think this whole taking sides thing is really cheesy and immature, but when you read this convorsation from a different perspective, it quite humorous. I don't really see Hillside or JCL01 praising the the city for it's benefits, attributes, or improvements along with their complaints. |

And, yeah, while the subject is crime or the city leadership, I'm not going to have much positive to say about the city. But, if the subject is, just a few examples, Cincy restaurants, or hanging out in Mt Adams, or Opening Day, or some of the people I met while I lived there, I'll have some positive things to say. |

![]() ... I think that by acknowledge this, you'd really earn a lot of respect from people on here that typically bunt heads with you (not that you need their respect) ... and on top of that, the best part is, you'd be speaking the truth! C'mon, just once! |
