You'd probably be better off in Cincinnati than in NKY, but we have a smattering of backwards people everywhere. Best to ignore them.

It's a joke...as is the Creation Museum and the Ark Experience in general. Kind of gives the flavor of the Cinci metro area though.

I grew up in this area, left for graduate school and came back for a job opportunity. We are not leaving because of that comment. That comment is one example of an attitude I have seen here. We desire greater diversity for our family, which we hope to find in a community relatively close to here, where my family lives.

Yes the area is fine for interracial couples(I'm in one) of course we have had stares but that's been anywhere we have been in the country. If I were you I would live not he Ohio side in a higher income community.

Maybe you should find a racially balanced community and the likelihood of comments towards either of you may diminish.

Another thing to keep in mind: people say ignorant things, it hurts, but don't let them control your life. We've all had verbal insults thrown at us.

Seriously, you're moving because of that comment?
I am going to go ahead and honor the curiosity in your question even though I thought I made this clear in my earlier post. *****I am here because it is where I was born and raised and is my family's home.***** There is a lot great about living here, including the presence of my family, which is why we returned here after I finished graduate school.

That said, it is not a good fit for my family now. We are moving elsewhere because we value diversity, and we want to live somewhere more diverse. (I am not sure why you offered the advuce to move when it was already clear that we hope to do so). Racism is a problem in NKY, as it is everywhere, but here, it seems more generally accepted than other places I have been.

Of course we are not moving because of one rude comment. That was previously made clear as well. The comment I described was ONE example of racism experienced by my family. Here is another. There was the child who told my son a joke in school. The punch line was "Run, nig*er, ni*ger, run." But there are other more insidious examples, too.

Privilege is believing something is not a problem because it does not hurt you. Check your privilege.

The OP asked for feedback about the interracial dating scene. I have lived experience in that area and shared part of my story. Your best response would have been just to listen.

Wow I have experienced ignorant remarks on east side of Cincinnati anpit 10 years ago and I wasn't in an interracial relationship.. I was called mulatto..haha really who still used that word...anyway I have friends in interracial relationships but I have not heard of them being treated bad....Cincinnati is no better then Kentucky a lot of the people who live here are from Kentucky. You're going to find ignorant people everywhere.

It's obvious that the OP is no longer interested in replies to this topic; they haven't returned to the thread since their initial post five months ago. Subsequently, this discussion either needs to end or become the topic of a new thread.
