thanks for the Beantown tips.

BTW, if you're ever in Dallas, the best Deli is the poorly named Deli-News...It's no Izzy Kadetz. Of course, the meat cutter doesn't yet at you like Izzy did (although their Russian Accents are difficult to decipher), and there are prices on the menu.

Is it true that there are multiple Izzy sites now? They couldn't compare to the original, downtown location.

Can't think of the name of the place (anyone?). Nice, crisp batter that's tight to the fish, etc. Awesome eats.
Nicholson's, opposite the Aronoff Center.
Who-all recollects Dimitri's? Best Greek food in town, but you had to go to a sketchy motel on Central Pkwy (just north of Dixmyth/Hopple) for it.
And, speaking of seafood, how 'bout the Windjammer in Sharonville? "Everybody" knew where it was, in the "pirate ship" on Chester Rd clearly visible fro I-75.

My parents when I was a little gipper, would get steak hoggies, and the most amazing pizza's there every Sat. Night! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It was close to the candy making company Schniders! Let me Know!!!!

It was there a year or two ago (I always used the one on Monmouth in Newport - the one that used to advertise on Bob Shreve's Past Prime Playhouse). Anyway, Schniders was still there too; took my daughter there and some local video crew was shooting a commercial.

Pasquale's were all over Cincinnati. My pal Mike and I used to frequent one on Warsaw Avenue in [East] Price Hill when we were kids . . . . as well as make prank phone calls to order stuff to be delivered to people we didn't like!

Default Some oldies

Here are some oldies, but goodies, to help keep the thread alive:

Henry's: 15-cent hamburger stands. There was a location
at Winton and Galbraith and another in Oakley. Active in the
early 1960's, before McDonald's became ubiquitous. Briefly
operated under the name Barney's, before shutting down
completely.

Billy's Fish Fry: storefront restaurant on Ludlow, near
Central Parkway. Heydays were probably back in the 50's -
it already seemed dated in the late 60's. Remained open
until maybe 10-15 years ago.

Macklenburg's: a Clifton beer hall in the post-war era. Reopened
with fine dining in the late 70's, operated by a co-op in Kentucky,
I believe. May still survive in some other incarnation.

O mi God. Loved Mecklenberg's. THose hamburger's were great. They had a wonderful outdoor beer garden, covered in grape vines (although they were too old to bear grapes). Ate there many times with my parents.

Henry's was great too. Seems like there sign had a smiling hanburger on it. Anyone remember this?

I remember Henry's, and its smiling burger-with-lettuce-on-seeded-bun sign, but never stopped in. The location I recall was on Winton, but farther north (beyond Brentwood Bowl, on the same - east - side of the street.) Ironically, the McDonald's which has stood for over thirty years was built where Henry's had been.

Pasquale's still turns out pizza in NKY, interesting. The location most written about here was on the south side of what was then called the Swifton Shopping Center, on Langdon Farm Rd in Bond Hill. What comes to mind about them was the radio ads which were in "heavy rotation" during the late sixties. The sung slogan, aimed squarely at all the hippies and wannabe's of the times, was "Beautiful Food for Beautiful People."

Mecklenburg Gardens is in business still, at the same spot on East University Ave in Corryville - a bit harder to reach now that the western blocks of its street have been gobbled up by UC expansion.

I think there's still a Pasquale's in Harrison.

I thought their pizza was better than Larosa's.

That's what happens when you have bad marketing combined with a bad franchise program and bad management.
