Zino's was on Old Vine Street; Ludlow Garage was on Ludlow (or Jefferson, same thing) Avenue, east of Clifton Avenue.

I THINK the first one was in Correyville at the old firehouse and
that the Hyde Park location came later. Could easily be mistaken.
A few people have mentioned their "Zinover" - a.k.a. calzone.
Was mentioned in the Reading Rd. thread. Sorrento's has had
several owners over the years. For a few years the Sakelos
family were owners. They have owned other area restaurants,
such as the Busy Bee.
Ditto. Had a big-city kind of bustle to it. Used to serve malts in
conical paper cups seated in a metal holder: classic.

The Busy Bee? Late-night deep-fried mushrooms and martinis? Ancient waitresses? All gone now, and it's a shame.

Frisch's of Reading/Roselawn

Rust, this was right after your mention of the Carousel in your series of posts. So I think you must've been referring to the Frisch's across the street from it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's gone to the Restaurant Row in the sky to take its place with all the other departed eating places of Reading Rd between Jordan Crossing (nee Swifton) and Galbraith. During its final years it'd been "demoted" from Mainliner status. The only remaining Frisch's bearing that title - along with its classic neon sign with a built-in silver airplane - is on Wooster Pike in Fairfax near Mariemont. (IN Mariemont? Sacre bleu, not a chance!)

I started my lifelong lust affair with hash brown potatoes, the stringy kind, at the Toddle House on Victory Pkwy. Does no one else recall that place? It was in a small building with windows all around, on the east side of the street just north of Wm Howard Taft Rd. The late '60s upheaval of Walnut Hills claimed it as a casualty along with the Alms Hotel across the street.

I think a few people have mentioned a Toddle House near
the Alms. There was also one on Clifton, across from
Burnett Woods, that held on for years. They were a chain
from out of the South - maybe Norfolk?

I think there was a Toddle House in the little triangle between Torrence and Madison in O'Bryonville. If I remember correctly it faced east up Madison Road. Can't say I recall ever being in there. I was an Echo regular from the early 50's. And, the Echo was much the same short order food.

The Toddle House on Clifton Ave. became the Steak & Egg Kitchen. I spent lots of late nights there! Really good 3am food.
The Echo still is a kind of diner-like place, but the prices have gone wayyy... up!

The Echo has gone from the ONLY restaurant on Hyde Park Square in the late 1970's serving the elderly crowd to a totally different demographic. The food is very solid BUT how many times a month am I willing to spend $10-15 for breakfast?

If you want a real test of Hyde Park trivia, there was a restaurant in the first floor of the apartment building which now houses the Vineyard (which was once Decker Drugs). That building had a lot of elderly and the restaurant was almost unknown to Hype Parkers other than those elderly residents for whom the restaurant was mainly directed. It was horrible. What was the name of that restaurant?

Gotta love The Echo, it keeps going and going and going. And nothing changes, maybe that's their secret!
YES, there was also a Toddle House on Clifton Ave between Howell and Terrace.
Could be that I'm the one who's wrong, but I believe Ludlow Garage was west of Clifton Ave. What I miss most from Ludlow Ave, though, is of course the Virginia Bakery (won't repeat past threads about it and their oh-so-good Christmas shnecken that Busken now has the recipe for.) And New World Foods was the perfect place to grab a sandwich or snack when nothing but earthy-crunchy would do. YOW, almost forgot about Peterson's; now there was a great place for hooking up mid-day grub. Another one was located in Mt Adams, that is until one day when they abruptly closed up shop.
