When I was in elementary school (Hyde Park School), one or two days a week I would get $.50 to get lunch on the Square. Inevitably, it was two plain hamburgers from the Echo at $.20 each carried out and eaten on the trip from Edwards to Michigan. The balance was spent on the return trip in one of the two 5 and 10 stores on the north side of Erie Ave. There was also a Kroger Store on the other side of Erie and, of course, the King Duffy where the rich folks shopped.

I doubt this typo was intentional, but talk about a Freudian slip! That's an excellent renaming of what's indeed quite the hyped neighborhood.
It's interesting to me that this is apparently a thread (if not a forum) visited mostly by east-siders. I don't remember reading anything about the Window Garden, which was on Harrison Ave in Westwood for eons where Henke Winery is now. They even crossed the Cincinnati Maginot Line and had a second location at the southeast corner of Madison and Edwards Rd's - you know, where you enter Hype Park from the north.

The Window Garden came and went in Hyde PArk.

How about Habigs? That's some comfort food. Great place for meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Or Ron's Roost?

Ron's Roost is still there, to the chagrin of thousands of chickens! But Habig's closed down last year.

What happened to the F&N? That was good cow.

Anyone recall the Red River Cattle Company out on 125 east of Amelia? Not as good as F&N but not bad.

Some others that come to mind...
Yellow Submarine on McMillan near UC
Taco Casa's original location in Hyde Park
Little Mexico, with foot-long coneys, down around 11th and Vine

I seem to remember that F&N had a good Porterhouse
steak. There is an Enquirer piece on the internet about its
closing - looks like five years ago.

Cannot recall RRCC, but there was another meatery in
that part of town, way back when, called the DR Ranch.

Here is one I can't remember: The Look Out House

I recently received an old photograph of my family, taken in the mid 1950's. ON the back it says it was taken at the Look Out House. The walls appear to have quilted material, and hilarious cut glass wall sconces.

Anyone remember this place...Does it still exist?

The Lookout House was very similar to the Beverly Hills Supper Club - and suffered a similar (albeit less tragic) fate. It burned to the ground on the early 70s.

The restaurant was a white tablecloth place where people would be dressed in suiy and tie. It had an upscale menu and was really very formal.

I must disclose that the last time I ate there was at age six or so in 1965.

The reason these Kentucky restaurants were so popular was that you could buy a drink on a Sunday.

At my mother's funeral in 1995, her friends were telling me about drive in bars in Kentucky where you could buy a mixed drink and have it brought to your car. (Obviously, those were different times.)

And for you folks out there, don't give your children ready access to your high school friends if you don't want them to find out about the skeletens in your closet.
