Looking for a bit of country outside of Cincinnati (Hamilton: home, school district)

Hello,

We are looking for a home not too far from Cincinnati (30 - 45 minutes drive) that has a country feel. We don't want to live in a town or in a subdivision. We would like at least half an acre of land. Our budget is under $100,000. Is this possible and what areas would you recommend? I will be going to school in Sharonville so I guess somewhere within 30 -45 minutes of there would be best. I have a child who will be going to school also, so something with a semi nice school district would be a bonus. Thanks for any help!

I agree. In the Sharonville area,you're looking at farmland that has been turned into subdivisions and other land around here has gone commercial. Any open land is at a premium price and I doubt you'll find a lot of that size.

If you consider Hamilton and Oxford as your outer limits, you may be able to find the type of community you're looking for.

Check out Blanchester, Hillsboro, and maybe Washington Court House. They're further than you quoted distance but if you need to stay in Ohio they'd be worth a shot. If you don't need to stay in Ohio maybe check out the towns in southern Indiana.

Eastern Warren County, northeastern Clermont County, or southwestern Clinton County might have something at that price. I'm not as familiar with rural Butler County.

What about Indiana? --- Very Close to Cincinnati, good schools and plenty of land.

You'd have to resign yourself to a longer commute now that Cincinnati's "sprawled" beyond I-275 in all directions and suburbia reigns even outside the loop. WCH is farther out than you'd necessarily need to go in order to find something costing less than six figures, though. Thanks to what was once called the Circle Freeway (no longer termed that *after* it was completed, go figure) you could still make it to Sharonville in not much more than an hour from: Batesville, Brookville, Sunman, Milan, Lawrenceburg, and Aurora (IN); Dry Ridge, Walton, Union, Wilder, and Burlington (KY); or Shandon, Harrison, Monroe, Foster, Bethel, Amelia, and the river towns east of New Richmond (OH.) Even those areas are starting to feel the effects of "subdivision creep," but maintain a rural feel to varying degrees. Along with being a relatively long haul from Sharonville, though, none of these communities have especially notable school systems in a bad or good way. On some of the MLS Web sites, including comey dot com, you can do searches for available property by county instead of by town. That might simplify things in terms of locating something you can afford, then working from there. Best o' luck!

This may just be ever so slightly out of the range, but try looking in eastern Clermont or western Brown Counties in Ohio (perhaps the Mount Orab area) you will find a lot of options within that price range.

I live in Sardinia (Central Brown County) it takes around 45 minutes to get to downtown Cincinnati it's about the same to get to Sharonville depending on traffic.
