Default relocating to Cincinnati from Los Angeles

My wife and I are fairly stylish creative types, but we are sick of Los Angeles. We live in the Silver Lake area of LA and have also lived in San Francisco and New York. My wife grew up in Cincinnati (lived there for 14 years as a child) and I've visited at least 10 times. I'm looking to rent a stylish house for at least a year or two considering the market and the fact that I don't know how long I can stand the winters.... We have two children, and we're not opposed to private school. Does anyone have any good suggestions for finding cool houses for rent in Mt Adams or Hyde Park? Craigslist seems to not be very active in Cincinnati.

You might want to look through the MLS and think about making a rental offer for a fixed period on a house which is on the market for sale. The real estate market in Cincinnati has been flat, and it's entirely possible that owners might consider renting for a year or two. Other areas to consider are Glendale and Wyoming, which are north of the city. They are good, old neighborhoods, with a diverse range of architecture. There was a Frank Lloyd Wright house (in Indian Hill, I think) put on the market not long ago, with a video feature on the Enquirer's web page (Enquirer.Com), which may be worth checking out. It's not likely to be rental converted, but is way cool!

If you're looking for something similar to Silver Lake, the closest you'd find would be Northside or Gaslight District in Clifton around Ludlow Ave. Not as vibrant, but aesthetically better IMO.

Default re: LA for 513

thanks for the suggestions, I've been to Clifton and the vibe was similar to Silver Lake. We are lucky enough to own our own business and work primarily from home. We pay nearly 5k for rent in Los Angeles, and still have to drive the kids 30 min across town to go to a decent school. We like LA, but unless you have to be in LA it's not worth the cost to be here anymore, San Francisco on the other hand is somewhat worth the cost because of the style of life and the food. The kids are looking forward to Skyline, Graeters, and the snow.

And really, the winters aren't that horrible. It doesn't snow much (although life comes to a standstill when it does!). Winters are more of a 40-degree rain and the sun makes more than an occasional appearance.

Sorry I can't be more help on the rental issue, but good luck to you!

WeeMadArthur, how about this one: "Gee, I'm headed down Montana Avenue and it's a little slick so I better go slow. I know ... I'll slam on my brakes!"

Sorry to veer off topic like that, Parklifemedia. Cincinnati drivers make it too easy. I guess our point is that it doesn't snow all that much, yet everyone goes into a panic with even the threat of snow. If you do move to town, do not -- I repeat do not!! -- go to the grocery store when there's a threat of snow. You'll never get out alive.

Anyway, try some of the real estate companies for rental possibilities. Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout, Clifton gaslight, Wyoming and Glendale are good suggestions. I've never tried to rent a house, so I'm little help there.

I don't know ... it seems a little odd to blanket an entire area with your theory?
