Kirby vacuums suck, Kirby Ave doesn't
"Decent" sums it up pretty well. Kirby Ave is within Northside, which is Cincinnati's "uber-trendy" neighborhood - the affordable alternative to Clifton and Mt Adams, which historically and still do share that title. That part of town is historically working-class. It maintains a lot of that feel even as restaurants proffering (sp?) salads made from "sustainably grown local" produce, and taverns trying to out-martini each other, open along Hamilton Ave. Right in with that kind of establishment are thrift shops and, famously, used-appliance dealers. Visit cincinnati dot com, the site for the Enquirer (city's newspaper, not the "National" gossip rag) and do a search under Northside. You'll see that the neighborhood, while relatively safe, isn't exactly crime-free. That's life in the city for you, though. Two single sisters I've known since childhood both bought in Northside some years ago and love their houses and their lives there. It's saying a lot when a woman can reside somewhere in a big city by herself and feel happy and secure, don'tcha think?
Knowlton's Corner, where Hamilton Ave crosses Spring Grove Ave to continue across a viaduct and become Ludlow Ave, was historically a major transportation hub in Cincinnati. There's still frequent Metro (bus) service through that intersection, making car-free connections to Clifton, downtown, College Hill, etc easy. A mini-mall which includes a big Kroger supermarket is minutes away, between Clifton Ave and West Mitchell Ave just east of Spring Grove. You'd be downtown or at the riverfront within 15 minutes' drive.
